Under general supervision of the Foreman, this position operates light duty equipment in the construction, repair, and maintenance of City streets, grounds, parks, and utility systems. Provides support in other Public Works functions, such as maintenance of City right of ways, clearing, collection, and/or removal of trash, debris, brush, and special events as needed. Performs related work as directed. Supervision:
Reports to: Foreman. Position will not have direct supervision over other staff. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or GED; and minimum one (1) year work experience. License and Certifications:
Valid Texas Class "C" Driver License or higher and acceptable driving record throughout employment Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the work. Knowledge of safe and effective operation of light duty equipment and hand-held gas, diesel, or electrically powered tools used in the construction, maintenance, and repair of City streets, roadways, right of ways, and drainage systems. Ability to comprehend and retain knowledge of the practices and materials utilized in the installation, maintenance, and restoration and repair of streets and drainage systems. Ability to understand and receive both oral and written instructions. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, fellow personnel, and outside departments and agencies with which position interacts. WORK ENVIRONMENT

In a typical work setting, the Maintenance Technician shall: Interpersonal Relationships Have a high level of social contact interacting with office staff, citizens, vendors, and other officials. Communicate professionally with people daily by telephone, e-mail, and in person. Hours/Travel Works a standard 40-hour week, 5 days per week. Work schedule is M-F 7am-4pm, but may require overtime, including evenings or weekends to meet deadlines or for special city sponsored events. Physical Demands and Work Conditions Requires physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects up to 50 pounds. Physical work is a primary part of the job (more than 70%). This position will involve some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which requires following basic safety precautions. Work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises. Works in indoor and outdoor conditions, in seasonal and weather conditions; drives a vehicle; subject to emergency situations. Disaster Service Workers Clause In the event of a declared emergency or any undeclared emergency or natural disaster that threatens the life, health and/or safety of the public, designated employees may be assigned to assist rescue and relief workers. Such assignments may be in locations, during hours and performing work significantly different from the employees normal work assignments and may continue through the recovery phase of the emergency.
