Job Description
Job Summary The Shenandoah County Department of Solid Waste is accepting applications for the position of Laborer. This position performs a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled manual labor tasks, assisting with solid waste, public works, and related operations. Performs responsible manual work; does related work as required. Work is performed under regular supervision. Essential Job Functions To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential job functions satisfactorily. The County provides reasonable accommodations to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the primary functions herein described. Performs a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled manual labor tasks assisting with solid waste, public works, and related operations. Unloads and sorts recycled materials, operates equipment to move, process and bail materials. Loads and unloads gravel, dirt, timber, chemicals and other materials, tools and equipment. Police refuse and recycling collection areas. Performs various grounds and facility maintenance duties including litter control, mowing, raking, and snow and ice removal. Paints buildings and equipment. Assists in the repair and maintenance of landfill equipment and facilities. Operates trucks, light construction equipment and motorized handheld equipment in performing labor tasks. Performs related tasks as required. Education and Experience Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and some experience in the performance of heavy manual work. Licenses or Certifications None. The starting pay range for this FLSA non-exempt position is $15.78 - $18.00/hour , annualized to $32,831.95 - $38,000.00 , commensurate with qualifications, experience, and internal equity.
