Job Title:
Shipyard Labor (Painter) Job Description This temporary pipefitter role supports shipyard operations by installing, modifying, and removing temporary piping systems on surface ships, submarines, shops, dry docks, and piers. The position requires the ability to read and interpret technical documentation, plan and execute piping layouts, and inspect and test installed systems while working in a dynamic shipyard environment. Responsibilities Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, written technical instructions, manuals, and working diagrams related to piping systems. Plan work layouts for new and existing piping systems, including determining material requirements and installation sequences. Install, modify, repair, and remove temporary pipe services on surface ships, submarines, shops, dry docks, and piers. Inspect installed piping systems, including associated valves, hardware, and hangers, to verify proper installation and compliance with technical requirements. Test piping systems and components to ensure proper operation, identify defects, and confirm system integrity. Apply trade mathematics and formulas to calculate flow rates, volumes, and other measurements necessary for proper system design and installation. Interpret and follow temporary ventilation requirements and trade standards to ensure safe and compliant work practices. Use hand tools, power tools, and trade-specific equipment safely and effectively during installation, modification, and removal of piping systems. Coordinate work with other trades and support personnel in the shipyard to complete tasks efficiently and safely. Follow all shipyard safety procedures, including working safely outdoors, in shops, and onboard vessels in various conditions. Essential Skills Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, working diagrams, and written technical instructions for piping systems. Demonstrated knowledge of how piping equipment and systems are installed, operated, and maintained. Proficiency in planning work layouts for new, modified, and existing piping systems. Ability to install, modify, repair, and remove piping, valves, hardware, and hangers in a shipyard environment. Skill in inspecting and testing installed piping systems to verify functionality and compliance. Working knowledge of trade mathematics and formulas to calculate flow rates and volumes. Understanding of temporary ventilation requirements and trade standards related to shipyard and onboard work. Capability to perform general labor and trade support tasks in a shipyard setting. Eligibility to obtain an interim Secret security clearance (Yellow Badge), including the ability to successfully complete the clearance process. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience performing general labor or trade support in a shipyard or industrial environment. Previous exposure to shipboard systems, including work on surface ships, submarines, or similar marine platforms. Familiarity with working in dry docks, piers, and shop facilities. Ability to complete security clearance application paperwork accurately and in a timely manner. Strong attention to detail and ability to follow technical instructions and safety procedures. Attire should be appropriate for industrial work, with required personal protective equipment provided or specified according to shipyard safety standards Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Bremerton, WA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $22.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
