Job Description

Position Summary Do you have commercial construction Superintendent experience with a General Contractor in Alaska? Dawson's Superintendent in Ketchikan is a take-charge leader with a strong customer focus, a sense of urgency, a concern and respect for safety, and the desire to achieve quality in the final product. Serves as the on-site supervisor and manager for construction projects. Includes travel to and from project site. Has ability to build crews in project location by assessing skill sets, recruiting and hiring. Onsite POC for design teams, subs and owners. Essential Functions Input and track employee time to the correct phases for the work being performed. Update short interval schedule for weekly progress meetings. Track production man-hours and assess percentage complete on all high risk self-performed labor activities. Keep project managers informed of all activities by regularly checking your email, calendar, phone, and voicemail. Review contract drawings, specifications, submittals, and shop drawings for errors, omissions, and conflicts. Write detailed RFI's when conflicts or clarification of documents are needed. Facilitate weekly subcontractor coordination meetings to minimize conflicts and avoid trade stacking. Conduct and/or assist with crew hiring, drug screening, and new-hire orientation. Assist subcontractors with work plans, schedules, jobsite orientation, and safety/quality expectations. Conduct weekly all-hands Toolbox Talk (TBT) safety meetings and provide documentation. Responsible for safety, quality & productivity of work site to ensure that: Everyone goes home safely to their family each night. That all work is done right the first time. Always strive to improve work efficiency. Directs the activities of workers engaged in the construction of buildings or other projects. Reads and interprets plans and specifications; examines and inspects work progress and site. Supervises, directs and coordinates activities of labor, subcontractors and deliveries. Meets with subcontractors to ensure satisfactory job progress. Ensures all reports and records are completed in an accurate and timely manner. Records information such as personnel, production, and operations data. Analyzes worker and production problems; improves production methods. Understands and adheres to safety and quality control requirements. Confers with managers and technical associates in order to coordinate activities. Verifies safety and design specifications are met. Conducts and participates in safety meetings. Prepares schedules and supervises completion of final punch list. Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Able to read and interpret construction documents, plans, and specifications Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables Excellent written and verbal communication Ability to multitask and work under pressure to meet deadlines Extremely organized and exhibit a high attention to detail Ability to work collaboratively with multiple team members Available to work overtime if necessary Demonstrated competence in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel and Word). Education and/or Experience 5+ years' experience in commercial construction, including experience with a commercial general contractor in Alaska or the Pacific Northwest. Knowledge of the construction industry, specifically commercial and industrial general contracting. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with an emphasis on customer service. Ability to speak clearly and articulate using proper grammar. Ability to travel to Alaska and work from site. Skilled working in scheduling (Phoenix), PDF mark-up (BlueBeam) software, and Microsoft Office Suite. Must be able to prioritize work activities and demonstrate good time management skills. Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship now and in the future.
