The Assistant Construction Manager is an entry-level homebuilding position designed to develop future Construction Managers through a structured onboarding program followed by a hands-on apprenticeship under the guidance of an experienced Construction Manager. This role supports onsite construction activities and provides exposure to all phases of the homebuilding process, including quality control, cost management, scheduling, safety compliance, and customer satisfaction. With direct supervision, the Assistant Construction Manager assists in coordinating construction activities to ensure homes are delivered on time, within budget, and in accordance with company quality standards. This role does not hold final decision-making authority for schedules, budgets, trade performance, or customer commitments. Responsibilities:
Assist in coordinating and overseeing the on-site construction process. Support trade partner scheduling, coordination, and supervision. Monitor assigned job sites for quality, safety, and regulatory compliance. Assist with cost control and budget adherence on assigned home sites. Maintain accurate construction schedules and documentation. Communicate effectively with homebuyers, trade partners, Community Sales Team, and internal support teams. Facilitate exceptional customer service by conducting customer care and walkthrough appointments. Identify and proactively communicate construction, customer service, scheduling, or safety issues, along with recommended solutions, to the Construction Manager. Ensure assigned communities and home sites are clean, organized, safe, and visually appealing to prospective buyers and homeowners. Assist in managing trade partner performance and relationships to support quality and efficiency. Complete required training programs and development milestones within designated timeframes. Seek guidance and approval from leaders on schedules, budgets, trade performance, and customer commitments as this position does not hold final decision-making authority. Perform additional duties as assigned. Qualifications:
High school diploma required. Bachelor's degree in construction management or a related field preferred; equivalent construction experience will be considered. One to three (1-3) years of residential construction experience, preferably with a production homebuilder. Basic computer proficiency is strongly preferred. Valid and active driver's license required. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
The physical demands described below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. Ability to work on active residential construction sites, including walking on uneven surfaces and navigating typical job site conditions. Ability to frequently walk and stand for extended periods and move throughout multi‑level structures, including ascending and descending stairs and ladders as required. Ability to occasionally lift, carry, push, or pull materials weighing 50 pounds or more, with or without reasonable accommodation. Ability to work in a fast‑paced, production‑driven environment with changing priorities and deadlines. Ability to operate a motor vehicle, maintain a valid and active driver's license, and travel between job sites, offices, and assigned communities as required. This role is performed primarily in the field with regular exposure to outdoor conditions, construction noise, dust, and varying weather conditions, with occasional office‑based responsibilities.
