A California-based MEP contractor power across multiple business units is hiring a Design Manager - for the Plumbing Division for its LA office. The team delivers large-scale multifamily and commercial construction projects throughout California and is looking for someone who combines strong technical design knowledge with real-world construction understanding. This role is ideal for a Plumbing Design leader who can move comfortably between engineering coordination meetings, fabrication reviews, and field troubleshooting. The team is already highly collaborative and established, so success in this role will require both technical credibility and the ability to work closely with project managers, installers, engineers, and field teams. Carson, CA | Full-Time | $160,000-$200,000 What You'll Be Responsible For Lead plumbing design efforts for large-scale multifamily construction projects from conceptual design through construction documentation Oversee fabrication drawings, installation drawings, and plumbing design deliverables across multiple active projects Manage plumbing system layouts including sanitary, vent, storm, domestic water, indirect waste, interceptors, and water efficiency systems Review fixture unit calculations, equipment sizing, pipe sizing, pumps, materials, and installation methods Coordinate closely with architects, structural teams, MEP trades, fabrication teams, and field personnel Troubleshoot constructability and installation issues directly with field teams during active construction Conduct QA/QC reviews to ensure drawings are accurate, coordinated, code-compliant, and ready for fabrication Support BIM coordination and clash detection efforts using Revit and Navisworks Mentor designers, drafters, and junior engineers while helping build long-term team capability Manage project schedules, RFIs, change orders, and plumbing-related design risks Participate in client meetings, coordination meetings, and preconstruction discussions Assist with value engineering and cost-saving initiatives without compromising system performance Maintain compliance with California plumbing codes, energy standards, OSHA requirements, and industry standards Help drive consistent design standards, documentation quality, and fabrication efficiency across projects
Requirements:
Professional Engineer (PE) license required 8+ years of plumbing design experience within multifamily or residential construction 3+ years leading teams, projects, or plumbing design groups Strong multifamily construction experience is required Experience supporting fabrication and field installation teams is required Advanced proficiency in Revit MEP, AutoCAD, Navisworks, and Bluebeam Strong understanding of constructability, coordination, and field execution Ability to work cross-functionally with established teams and communicate effectively with both office and field personnel Experience in design-build environments preferred LEED accreditation or PMP certification is a plus Candidates must be authorized to work in the U.S. without future sponsorship The team is prioritizing candidates who can operate independently, collaborate well with experienced teams already in place, and bring both engineering depth and practical field awareness to multifamily projects. INDFM Pay:
