This role involves creating and nurturing relationships between mentors and mentees, ensuring program effectiveness, and fostering a supportive environment. The specialist will work closely with program participants, site staff, and community partners to enhance the quality and impact of the mentoring experience.
Qualifications:
High School diploma or GED and 12 units of Child Development or related field required. AA in Education, Early Childhood Education, Child Development or related field preferred. Minimum of two years of experience working with youth in a comparable setting. Experience working with staff, volunteers, and school-aged children preferred. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, Excel, Word. A valid California driver's license is required of staff who have regular driving duties, and the driving record must meet the requirements of their position and be approved by the agency's insurance company.Essential Job Functions:
Operate an agency or personal vehicle for work-related activities which may include, client visits, meetings, trainings, or other agency-related appointments Ensure compliance with driving requirements, including maintaining a valid driver's license, current vehicle registration, and proof of insurance as required by agency policy. Physical, mental and emotional health adequate to perform duties. Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to act in an emergency situation. Ability to monitor behavior during program activities and general housekeeping responsibilities. Ability to relate to children and adults in a professional manner. Ability to effectively communicate with staff, children, agency officials and the community at large. Ability to work with cultural/ethnic diversity. Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive program information including but not limited to staff, clients, and collaborative partners. Demonstrates reliable and punctual attendance to ensure continuous support and presence for students and staff.Responsibilities:
Plan, supervise and implement the program, monthly goals and objectives, calendar of activities, daily schedule, curriculum, in accordance with the goals and policies of Sierra Vista Child & Family Services. Ensure that program mentors and mentees consistently comply with all regulations and policies and procedures of the partnering agencies as well as Sierra Vista Child & Family Services. Ensure established emergency procedures are followed at all times by all mentors and mentees, ensuring the safety of the participants and staff. Accurately document all incidents/accidents and ensure proper communication to all parties as appropriate. Maintain complete and up-to-date records, including attendance, absentees, and emergency information on all children enrolled. Ensure accuracy and consistency of sign in/out sheets Provide direction and guidance to mentors on a regular basis. Coordinate mentor schedules and monitor mentor's arrivals, departures and absences. Coordinate daily program operations including; daily set up, program planning and site maintenance including, but not limited to; cleaning designated mentoring room, wiping down tables, sweeping/mopping/vacuuming floors, taking out trash, and securing facilities and equipment. Maintain professional demeanor at all times to ensure Sierra Vista Child & Family Services image and mission statement are upheld. Assist in the recruitment of mentors. Responsible for preventing and controlling infection. Responsible for maintaining a culture of quality and safety.Other:
Attend all required meetings and trainings. Report any suspected child or dependent adult/elder abuse or neglect immediately to direct supervisor or utilize the chain of command if supervisor is unavailable. Report any client imminent danger to self or to others or gravely disabled immediately to direct supervisor or utilize the chain of command if supervisor is unavailable. Other duties as assigned.
