Job Description
Construction Superintendent - Residential & Commercial Specialty Contractor Soundproof San Diego is one of Southern California's premier specialty construction companies, providing high-end acoustical and specialty wall and ceiling solutions for residential and commercial clients. We solve challenging noise problems and install technically demanding systems where quality, craftsmanship, and customer experience matter. We're not looking for someone to simply supervise construction—we're looking for a field leader . We're looking for someone who takes ownership of projects, develops people, solves problems before they become expensive, and is respected by crews because they've done the work themselves. You won't spend your days wearing your tool bags—but we value leaders who can still put them on when a difficult installation, layout, or training opportunity calls for it. Your primary responsibility is leading people, ensuring quality, developing crews, and delivering an exceptional customer experience—not serving as an extra installer. If you take pride in your work, enjoy solving problems, and naturally lead people, we'd like to talk. Compensation & Benefits $95,000-$145,000 annually (DOE) Performance bonus opportunity Company vehicle or vehicle allowance Company phone Health insurance Paid Time Off Paid holidays Retirement plan Long-term career growth with a growing specialty contractor About the Role As Construction Superintendent, you'll serve as the operational bridge between ownership, project management, foremen, field crews, subcontractors, suppliers, and customers. You'll oversee the field execution of multiple residential and commercial projects throughout San Diego County while ensuring every project reflects the quality and professionalism our reputation is built upon. Success in this role isn't measured by how many hours you spend swinging a hammer. It's measured by how well you build crews, prevent problems, communicate with customers, and consistently deliver outstanding projects. We believe the success of a superintendent isn't measured by how much work they personally perform—it's measured by how successful their team becomes. Responsibilities Oversee field execution of multiple residential and commercial construction projects. Coordinate daily activities of installers, foremen, subcontractors, suppliers, and deliveries. Perform regular jobsite visits to ensure projects remain on schedule and meet Soundproof San Diego's quality standards. Verify that crews have the materials, equipment, information, and support they need to be successful before work begins Read and interpret architectural drawings, shop drawings, and construction documents. Identify and resolve field issues before they become delays, change orders, or costly callbacks. Serve as the primary field representative with homeowners, architects, designers, business owners, and general contractors. Ensure specialty acoustical systems and architectural finish work are installed according to plans and manufacturer requirements. Build, develop, and lead a high-performing field team by identifying staffing needs, participating in hiring decisions, coaching employees, addressing performance issues, and making recommendations regarding promotions, discipline, and terminations. Demonstrate installation techniques and assist with difficult layouts or specialty installations when it helps the team succeed—not as routine production labor. Coordinate manpower, equipment, materials, and scheduling with Project Managers. Document project progress with photos, notes, and field reports. Maintain clean, organized, and safe jobsites. Promote a culture of accountability, professionalism, craftsmanship, and continuous improvement. Establish clear performance expectations and hold field employees accountable for safety, quality, productivity, professionalism, attendance, and customer service. What Success Looks Like After your first year, you'll have helped create: Better schedule adherence. Fewer punch list items and callbacks. Stronger foremen and more capable crews. Better communication between the office and the field. Customers who feel informed, respected, and confident throughout the project. Projects that consistently reflect Soundproof San Diego's reputation for quality. Project Managers who spend more time managing projects and less time putting out fires. Qualifications Required Minimum 7 years of construction experience. Minimum 3 years supervising crews or managing field operations. Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously. Strong knowledge of residential and commercial construction. Ability to read and interpret construction drawings. Demonstrated hands-on experience installing or supervising multiple construction trades. Excellent communication and customer service skills. Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities. Preferred Experience Experience with multiple of the following: Metal framing Drywall Acoustical ceilings Specialty ceilings Finish carpentry Architectural interiors Acoustical wall systems Fabric wall systems Specialty doors and hardware High-end residential remodeling Commercial tenant improvements Experience with specialty construction trades is highly valued. Experience supervising union construction crews is preferred, but not required About You You don't wait for someone else to solve problems. You notice details before others do. You communicate proactively. You hold yourself and your crews to a high standard. You're calm under pressure and earn respect through your knowledge, work ethic, and leadership—not simply because of your title. You enjoy coaching others and helping people become better at their craft. You're willing to put your tool bags on when the situation truly calls for it, but you understand your greatest value comes from developing your team, solving problems, and ensuring every project is successful—not from doing the work yourself. You take pride in leaving every project better than you found it. Why Join Soundproof San Diego? We're intentionally building a company where quality matters, people matter, and leadership matters. You'll have the opportunity to help shape our field operations, mentor great people, solve interesting technical challenges, and play a significant role in the continued growth of one of Southern California's most respected specialty contractors.
