Healthcare Construction Superintendent Location:
San Diego, CA (travel required)Position Type:
Project based or contract with potential for ongoing work Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Healthcare Construction Superintendent to lead field operations on complex construction projects within active, occupied healthcare environments. This role is responsible for the day to day execution of work in settings where safety, compliance, and coordination are critical to maintaining uninterrupted patient care. The Superintendent will serve as the primary field leader, managing subcontractors, coordinating with hospital staff, and ensuring all work is executed in accordance with project documents, regulatory requirements, and healthcare specific standards. This position requires someone who can step into active projects, quickly assess conditions, establish control of the jobsite, and drive execution with minimal oversight.Compensation Hourly Pay Range:
$70 to $75 per hour Final rate dependent on experience, project complexity, and travel requirements Key Responsibilities Field Operations and Execution Direct and manage all on site construction activities from mobilization through closeout Coordinate and supervise multiple trades to ensure proper sequencing and workflow Maintain daily awareness of site conditions, manpower, and production levels Drive project schedule and implement recovery plans when delays occur Healthcare Compliance and Safety Ensure compliance with The Joint Commission and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services requirements, along with facility specific policies Implement and maintain Infection Control Risk Assessment protocols including barrier installation, negative air, and dust containment Plan and execute shutdowns, tie ins, and utility disruptions with minimal impact to hospital operations Maintain a safe, clean, and compliant jobsite at all times Coordination and Communication Lead daily coordination meetings with subcontractors and stakeholders Act as the primary field contact for hospital staff, facilities teams, and inspectors Coordinate work in phased and occupied environments while minimizing disruption to patients and staff Communicate field issues, risks, and progress clearly to project management Project Controls and Documentation Review drawings, specifications, RFIs, and submittals for constructability and coordination Track field progress against schedule and identify risks early Maintain accurate daily reports and site documentation Support inspections, punch list completion, and project closeout Qualifications 5 to 10+ years of superintendent experience in commercial construction Demonstrated experience in healthcare construction or similarly regulated environments Proven ability to work in active, occupied facilities Strong understanding of infection control and life safety requirements Ability to manage multiple trades and shifting priorities Strong leadership, communication, and problem solving skills Preferred Experience HCAI or OSHPD project experience Hospital renovations, infrastructure upgrades, and phased construction Mechanical, electrical, and plumbing coordination Experience working alongside hospital facilities or plant operations teams OSHA 30 certification What We Are Looking For A field driven leader who takes ownership of jobsite performance Someone who can quickly establish structure and accountability on active projects Calm, solutions focused, and decisive under pressure Strong communicator who can manage subcontractors and work effectively with hospital staff Willingness to travel and support project based work Why This Opportunity Opportunity to lead work in highly specialized healthcare environments Consistent pipeline with potential for ongoing engagement High level of autonomy and trust in field leadership Work that directly supports critical infrastructure and patient care environmentsJob Types:
