Work alongside and lead your crew. Grade, install turf, set drainage, lay base material — you can do the work, not just direct it. Operate heavy equipment including bulldozers, excavators, motor graders, and skid steers safely and efficiently. Read and execute from construction drawings and specifications. Identify issues before they hit the field and flag them through the proper channels. Own quality at every phase — verify subcontractor work meets spec before the next scope begins. Never sign off on work that doesn't pass. Run daily field reports — weather, manpower, work completed, deliveries, open issues, and next day plan. Done daily, no exceptions. Hold the site to a high safety standard. Conduct daily safety observations, stop work on critical hazards, and notify the project manager the same day. Manage punch list through closeout — track open items by priority, verify completions in the field, and drive the project to substantial completion. Serve as the primary point of contact on site for subcontractors and inspectors. Field Skills Earthwork, grading, and drainage installation Synthetic and natural turf systems Concrete flatwork and curbing Heavy equipment operation Field layout and grade verification Site utilities and stormwater Leadership Skills Crew management and daily scheduling Blueprint and spec reading Subcontractor coordination QC verification and documentation Daily field reporting Safety compliance — OSHA 30 required What You Bring 5+ years in sports field, athletic facility, or civil site construction — with at least 2 years in a lead or superintendent capacity. You can run a crew and work in it. The best candidate has grown from field builder to site lead and hasn't lost the ability to do either. Proven ability to manage multiple subcontractors simultaneously while maintaining schedule and quality. OSHA 30 certification required. First Aid/CPR preferred. Strong documentation discipline — daily reports, QC logs, and safety records done completely and on time. Physically capable of working outdoors in all conditions alongside your crew.
