Job Description

Fire Sprinkler Design Manager - relocation providedPosition OverviewLead and manage the fire sprinkler design group to deliver compliant, cost-effective, and constructible sprinkler system designs. The Design Manager will ensure designs meet NFPA and applicable local codes, mentor and develop design staff, coordinate with clients, architects, and contractors, and oversee quality control, permitting, schedules, and budgets to achieve successful project delivery.

Key ResponsibilitiesLead and supervise the fire sprinkler design team, including hiring, mentoring, assigning work, and conducting performance reviews.

Ensure all designs comply with NFPA standards, applicable local building and fire codes, and project specifications.

Review and approve hydraulic calculations, system layouts, details, and equipment selections for wet, dry, deluge, pre-action, and special hazard systems.

Implement and maintain office design standards, procedures, templates, and QA/QC processes to ensure consistency and accuracy across projects.

Coordinate directly with clients, project managers, engineers, architects, contractors, and AHJs to resolve design issues and obtain timely approvals and permits.

Manage project schedules, resources, and budgets for the design team to meet milestones and deliverables.

Provide technical guidance, training, and support to designers and engineers; promote professional development and NICET certification where applicable.

Lead site visits and design reviews during construction as needed to ensure install matches design intent and to assist with field issues.

Evaluate new products, software, and technologies and recommend improvements to increase efficiency and design quality.

Prepare and present technical reports, proposals, and bid documentation; participate in client meetings and business development activities as required.

QualificationsBachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Fire Protection Engineering, or related discipline preferred; advanced technical credentials a plus.

Minimum 7 years of progressive experience in fire sprinkler system design, including hydraulic calculations and shop drawing production.

Proven management experience leading design staff or project teams, with strong coaching and personnel development skills.

Thorough knowledge of NFPA codes and standards (e.g., NFPA 13, 13R, 13D, 25) and experience applying them to building-specific designs.

NICET certification (Level III or IV preferred) or demonstrated support of staff NICET certification efforts.

Proficiency with design and calculation tools such as AutoCAD/Revit, hydraulic calculation software, and Microsoft Office.

Strong project management skills, including experience managing budgets, schedules, and client expectations.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to coordinate effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders.

Familiarity with local permitting processes and AHJ interactions; ability to travel to project sites as required.
