Furniture Plus Design Job Summary:
As the Installation Manager, you will manage large commercial furniture projects from start to finish, from reading CAD blueprints to the final client walkthrough. You will also help hire, train, and lead a new, efficient team of in-house installers.
Key Responsibilities:
Build & Lead the
Team:
Partner with HR to interview and hire a new field crew. Supervise their daily work and review their performance to ensure high-quality craftsmanship. Work with
Project Managers:
Act as the main contact on the job site for the Project Manager. Give regular updates on site readiness, installation progress, and any delays to keep the project on schedule and on budget. Schedule & Staffing (Capacity Planning): Coordinate schedules and timelines so every job has the right number of workers. Work closely with sales, design, and project management teams to keep things running smoothly. Check Shipments (Logistics): Manage incoming project parts. Count boxes and items to double-check them against shipping documents like the Bill of Lading (BOL) and Bill of Materials (BOM). Quickly report any missing or damaged items to the project manager.
Technical Work & Blueprints:
Read and understand complex blueprints and CAD (Computer-Aided Design) drawings to plan the team's work. Keep up your technical certifications and follow manufacturer guides so all work protects the product warranties.
Training & Development:
Create and run training programs for your installers. Teach them company quality standards and manufacturer techniques, including Teknion certification rules.
Site Inspections:
Visit job sites before, during, and after the installation. Verify exact room measurements, check where electrical outlets are placed, and plan where to store materials.
Safety & Compliance:
Enforce all site safety rules. Make sure every installer uses proper PPE (Personal Protective Equipment), follows safety training, and meets company standards.
Project Completion:
Complete projects accurately and on time. Take photos of any damaged items, track the final punch list (the list of small fixes needed at the end), and get the client's final signature to close out the job.
Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent. Experience managing installation crews or construction subcontractors. Valid Hawaii driver's license with a clean driving record (driver's abstract). Strong speaking and writing skills to work with clients and team members. Comfort using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and standard office equipment. Flexibility to work varied full-time hours, including nights and weekends, to meet project deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications:
College degree. 3-5 years of experience in furniture installation, construction, or related field. Experience operating forklifts (either stand-up or sit-down models). Certified in major commercial furniture systems (i.e. certification in all Teknion Architectural Interior (AI) wall systems). Experience managing projects large jobs with over 20 workstations or multi-floor installations.
Physical Requirements:
Regularly required to stand, walk, and use hand or power tools for long periods of time. Regularly lift, carry, push, and move up to 75 lbs on your own without help. Wear company-branded provided shirt and look clean and professional. Drive to different client job sites across the island, and occasional travel inter-island. Regularly able to stoop, kneel, bend, crouch, climb ladders, and balance while inspecting installation jobs.
