- Full-time As an established Chicagoland General Contractor since 1984, BEAR Construction Company is seeking an experienced Construction Superintendent to join our growing Healthcare team.
This role will focus on healthcare and medical construction projects, including hospital renovations, outpatient facilities, medical office buildings, specialty clinics, and other occupied healthcare environments. Position Overview The Superintendent will work closely with all members of the project team while overseeing daily field operations and supervising trade partners. The ideal candidate will have experience managing healthcare construction projects within active and occupied facilities, where patient safety, infection control, and minimal disruption to ongoing operations are critical. Our Superintendents must be highly organized, communicate effectively, work collaboratively, and successfully deliver projects in fast-paced environments.
Responsibilities:
Plan construction processes by developing schedules, phasing plans, and look-ahead schedules Coordinate construction activities within occupied healthcare environments while minimizing disruptions to patients, staff, and ongoing operations Ensure compliance with healthcare-specific requirements, including Infection Control Risk Assessments (ICRA), Interim Life Safety Measures (ILSM), and facility-specific protocols Collaborate with hospital administration, facilities teams, clinical staff, and project stakeholders to coordinate project activities Maintain project schedules and monitor daily progress Purchase equipment and materials and track material inventory and deliveries Ensure the job site remains safe, clean, organized, and compliant with all healthcare facility requirements Coordinate equipment maintenance and site logistics Communicate field conflicts and proactively notify the internal project team of potential impacts Maintain all project documentation for internal and external stakeholders Collaborate with project managers, engineers, subcontractors, facility representatives, and building management to determine project needs Set performance goals and deadlines for field personnel and trade partners Monitor and report project progress and productivity Adhere to project budgets and support overall project profitability Supervise field staff and provide constructive feedback and mentorship Coordinate manpower needs and subcontractor staffing requirements Schedule and coordinate inspections with local authorities and healthcare facility representatives Resolve on-site issues and emergencies in a timely manner Ensure compliance with all safety, health, quality, and regulatory standards
Qualifications:
Previous experience as a Construction Superintendent or in a similar leadership role Healthcare construction experience strongly preferred, including work within occupied hospitals, medical office buildings, clinics, or healthcare facilities Familiarity with healthcare construction requirements, including ICRA, ILSM, containment procedures, and infection prevention measures Field experience, trade school education, or college degree (Construction Management or Engineering preferred) Knowledge of local quality, safety, and health guidelines for construction job sites Strong understanding of construction operations, sequencing, and scheduling Understanding of phase coding and labor tracking practices Familiarity with mobile construction software platforms Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite Excellent organizational, communication, and time-management skills Strong leadership abilities with the capacity to motivate and develop teams OSHA 30 Certification required Opportunities for Growth Additional responsibilities, cross-training, leadership development, and internal advancement opportunities are a few examples of how BEAR Construction Company's management team continually strives to motivate and challenge employees.
