Westmont, IL/ Job Summary:
The Estimating Manager oversees the estimating function for prestress and precast concrete projects, ensuring the development of accurate, competitive, and timely cost estimates. This role provides leadership to the estimating team and collaborates cross-functionally with sales, engineering, project management, and preconstruction to support successful project bids and proposals. The ideal candidate brings deep industry expertise, strong analytical capability, and a commitment to continuous improvement.Job Duties:
Lead, mentor, and develop the estimating team, promoting accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement. Establish and maintain standardized estimating procedures, tools, and best practices. Review architectural and structural drawings, specifications, and related documents to prepare detailed cost estimates. Analyze project costs, risks, and assumptions using strong quantitative and analytical judgment. Collaborate with engineering, project management, sales, and preconstruction teams to ensure scope alignment and bid accuracy. Manage bid schedules and ensure timely, complete, and compliant proposal submissions. Participate in pre-bid meetings, scope reviews, and site visits as required. Maintain and update cost databases, unit pricing, and historical estimating data. Identify value-engineering opportunities and alternative solutions to enhance competitiveness. Clearly communicate estimate assumptions, risks, opportunities, and changes to internal stakeholders. Ensure all bid documentation and opportunity files are properly created, maintained, and updated. Serve as a change agent to improve estimating processes, productivity, and consistency.Work Environment:
Primarily office-based with exposure to plant or jobsite environments as needed. Noise levels may be high in certain areas; hearing protection may be required.Physical Requirements:
Frequently required to sit, walk, and communicate with others. Occasionally required to stand. Must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.Experience & Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field preferred. 10+ years of experience in the prestress and precast concrete industry, with a focus on estimating or sales management. Proven leadership experience managing or supervising estimating teams. Proficiency with estimating software. Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel. Working knowledge of Bluebeam and Microsoft Office applications. Strong analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving abilities.
