General Position Summary:
The Residential Construction Manager leads the day-to-day execution of housing renovation, repair, and construction projects for Bridge of Grace under the direction of the Director of MVPD. This role supervises renovation staff, apprentices, and volunteers, ensures quality and safety standards, and assists the Director with operational support as needed.
Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities:
Construction & Renovation Execution Lead residential renovation, repair, and construction projects under the direction of the Director of MVPD. Perform and oversee construction projects to ensure project quality and timelines. Coordinate subcontractors and vendors to support efficient project completion. Inspect projects to ensure compliance with quality, safety, and standards. Staff & Volunteer Leadership Provide instruction, mentorship, and performance feedback to part time staff. Assist the Director to recruit, coordinate, and oversee volunteers. Lead hands-on training opportunities for assigned staff and volunteers. Promote a safe, respectful, and productive jobsite environment for staff & volunteers. Project Planning & Scheduling Assist the Director in developing project scopes, budgets, & timelines prior to initiation. Manage schedules, coordinate staff, subcontractors, & volunteers to meet deadlines. Track project progress and communicate updates, risks, and needs to the Director. Support permit coordination, inspections, and required documentation as directed. Director Support & Program Assistance Assist with program administrative functions and volunteer engagement as needed. Support Pathway to Homeownership activities and other housing initiatives as directed. Serve as a secondary point of contact for housing-related matters, when appropriate. Perform additional related duties as assigned to support departmental operations. Safety, Compliance & Stewardship Enforce jobsite safety standards to protect staff, volunteers, tenants, and visitors. Ensure subcontractor compliance with licensing, insurance, and safety requirements. Help coordinate work in a manner that prioritizes safety, dignity, and disruption. Build and maintain positive working relationships with staff, volunteers, subcontractors. Experience and Qualifications Required 3 + years of experience in residential construction, renovation, or a related field. Demonstrated experience supervising staff, apprentices, volunteers, or contractors. Knowledge of construction methods, building systems, tools, and jobsite safety. Experience coordinating projects and schedules to meet timelines and expectations. Ability to work independently and manage priorities with minimal supervision. Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings or weekends, as required. Preferred Experience working in a nonprofit or community development organization. Experience training or mentoring apprentices, interns, or entry-level staff. Familiarity with building codes, inspections, permits, and compliance processes. Experience coordinating or supervising volunteers or short-term mission teams. Relevant trade certifications, licenses, or formal training in residential construction. Bilingual (English/Spanish or English/Burmese). Familiarity with the Mount Vernon Park neighborhood or similar urban contexts. Working Conditions Combination of indoor/outdoor residential properties, construction sites, and office. Exposure to construction sites, tools, equipment, and varying weather conditions. Position requires frequent movement between job sites and properties. Occasional evenings and weekends may be required as needed. Ability to respond to urgent situations as needed, which may require adjusted hours. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required to maintain jobsite safety. Access to reliable transportation for local travel between properties is required.
