POSITION TITLE:
Construction Services Specialist
REPORTS TO
Director of Construction Services
CLASSIFICATION
PRN 15-20 hours a week with
Flexible Scheduling HOURS:
Monday - Saturday as needed and available
POSITION SUMMARY
The Construction Services Specialist is primarily responsible for performing construction activities including installation of home ramp and access projects, light home repair projects, Habitat home construction pre-closing inspections, Habitat home warranty work, and assisting with the creation and maintenance of home model floor plans, trade plans,and elevations. Participation in new home construction, home salvage projects, and home rehab projects are also possible as schedule allows and operational needs arise. This may include leading assigned community construction volunteers, providing instructions on equipment and Habitat construction procedures. This position serves as a resource for maintaining safe work sites, productive volunteer experiences, and the successful completion of Habitat projects. This position reports to the Director of Construction Services.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Complete approved home ramp/mobility installations, light home repair projects, Habitat home warranty work o Complete evaluations and design of approved home ramp/mobility installations, order required materials, and install ramp and mobility modifications per design o Complete evaluations and cost estimates of requested light home repair projects and secure needed approvals and permits o Assist with ensuring that needed building materials and equipment are available for scheduled building activities on assigned home repair sites and complete home repairs per the approved plans and estimates o Assist as requested with Habitat Partner homeowners' construction pre-closing inspections, punch-list reviews, and post-closing warranty reviews o Coordinate or complete all needed pre-closing punch list items and post-construction warranty repairs identified in a timely manner.
o Assist with development and management of construction activity work plan schedules o Participate in construction and salvage site activities as schedule allows and operational needs arise o Assist with ensuring the completion of all assigned building projects in a timely, safe, and fiscally responsible manner o Assist with ensuring that all building and salvage projects adhere to Habitat standards, building codes, and local ordinances o Assist with ensuring compliance with all OSHA, Habitat, and local safety standards and policies
  • Provide effective communication, project assignments, sub-contractor scheduling, and project updates o Instruct, teach, and train any community volunteers on building sites in assigned construction activities o Provide volunteer Site Safety instructions for any projects utilizing community volunteers o Provide consistent, timely, and required building status updates to Habitat support personnel o Participate and provide construction training as directed in Partner Family education programs
SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist as requested with the development and maintenance of Habitat home plans, floor plans, trade plans, and elevations.
  • Attain and maintain Competent Safety Person training and CPR certification
  • Attain and maintain any needed DOT certification required to operate Habitat equipment or vehicles
  • Continually analyze building materials, methods, and industry trends to improve Habitat building outcomes
  • Attend Habitat, industry, and community events in support of role and Habitat mission
  • Attend routine construction, staff meetings, and board meetings as directed
  • Affirm and demonstrate a passion for the mission and values of Habitat for Humanity
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position is primarily at construction sites with some time spent in an office setting. Engagement in meetings with community members, community group meetings and presentations may be required. Position may work Monday through Saturday.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
High School Diploma or equivalent Additional construction industry education or construction training preferred 3 years of relevant residential home building experience Experience with construction industry design and project management software preferred Ability to use and train others on standard construction equipment and tools OSHA compliance with Competent Safety person certification (or attain within 3 months) Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain industry and community relationships Effective communicator with well-developed interpersonal skills Demonstrated ability to work with the public, volunteers, and partner homeowners Ability to work across departments and roles within the organization
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM JOB
Ability to perform all aspects of manual construction labor Ability to lift up to 50 pounds individually or 100 pounds as a team lift on a regular basis Personal Vehicle to use for commuting to work Valid Driver's License DOT Physical required to operate Habitat equipment and vehicles Proof of Current Personal Vehicle insurance and ability to be insured by Habitat carrier Successfully pass Drug Test and Background check
