Job Title:
Construction Project Manager / Construction and Electrical Coordinator Job Description The Construction Project Manager / Construction and Electrical Coordinator oversees on-site construction, electrical, and controls activities for automation and Building Management System ( BMS ) projects, with a strong focus on chilled-water and data center environments. This role plans, directs, and reports on field execution, ensuring work is performed safely, on schedule, within scope, and to specification. The position provides leadership to field teams, coordinates closely with general contractors and owners, and manages the full lifecycle of field implementation, from I/O checkout and commissioning through documentation and billing. Responsibilities + Lead on-site coordination and oversight of automation, electrical, and controls field execution for chilled-water and BMS projects, ensuring delivery is safe, on schedule, and in accordance with project specifications. + Direct field crews in networking PLCs and associated equipment, loading PLC programming, performing system start-up, and configuring PLC and SCADA platforms such as Rockwell and Ignition. + Coordinate configuration and start-up of valves, instrumentation, flow meters (including factory start-up of Endress+Hauser flow meters), control valve actuators, and chiller-loop sensors. + Manage teams performing pre-commissioning start-up, I/O checks, and loop tuning to ensure systems operate as designed. + Troubleshoot field issues and lead resolution efforts, including implementing remote updates to PLC and SCADA programming, while maintaining redline documentation in line with change-management guidelines. + Coordinate modification and reconfiguration of SCADA systems, trends, alerts, and alarms to align with field requirements and applicable owner standards. + Plan, schedule, and supervise field staff working extended overtime schedules, including approximately 58-hour work weeks, and manage manpower curves, rotation and travel schedules, and overall resource utilization. + Prepare and submit daily logs and Pre-Task Plans (PTPs), produce weekly progress reports and schedule updates, and develop monthly forecast billings and pay applications with executive summaries, percent-complete updates, safety highlights, manpower curves, and identified constraints. + Serve as the primary point of contact with the general contractor's field project management, environmental health and safety (EH&S), and technical leads, including participation in weekly onsite and remote coordination meetings. + Enforce visual inspection of all field materials and devices after installation, including conduit, junction boxes, wire and cable, poly tubing, ferrules, home runs, and labeling, and promptly communicate any defects or nonconformances to the general contractor. + Manage staff compliance with personal protective equipment ( PPE ) requirements and ensure adherence to site-specific safety and EH&S policies. + Coordinate CxAlloy issue resolution, requests for information (RFIs), building information modeling ( BIM ) updates, and workflows in Procore, Hammer-Tech, and Bluebeam Studio, including upkeep of accurate As-Built redlines. + Oversee project scope management by ensuring that no out-of-scope work is performed without written direction and pre-approval from the general contractor. + Resolve project issues diplomatically, both within the internal team and externally with clients and owners, maintaining a solutions-focused approach. + Maintain consistent daily verbal and written communication with stakeholders to provide clear updates on progress, risks, and needs. + Review and comprehend technical specification documents and testing protocols, verifying their accuracy and completeness and ensuring field activities align with these requirements. + Manage project expenses, including review and approval of hours, in alignment with project scope and budget objectives. + Model a team-oriented approach, maintaining a consistently positive attitude, setting an example of partnership, and practicing effective leadership. + Perform other related duties as required to support successful project delivery. Essential Skills + Bachelor's degree in a technical field such as Engineering, Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or a related discipline, or equivalent trades and field experience such as journeyman electrician or controls technician. + Desired 3 years of experience, with a minimum of 1 year, in industrial controls, electrical construction, or commissioning of automated process and facility systems. + Hands-on experience preferred with Rockwell PLCs and Ignition or comparable SCADA configuration platforms. + Experience working with instrumentation including flow, pressure, and temperature devices, valves, variable frequency drives (VFDs), and BMS or chilled-water systems. + Demonstrated experience leading commissioning activities at levels L3, L4, L5, or equivalent, and coordinating with third-party commissioning agents. + Proven ability to coordinate self-performed and subcontracted electrical and controls field work in a plan-driven or hybrid project methodology environment. + Working knowledge of construction-management toolsets such as Bluebeam Studio, Procore, CxAlloy, and Hammer-Tech. + OSHA 30 certification, with additional training in lockout/tagout ( LOTO ), Mobile Elevated Work Platforms ( MEWP ), Arc Flash, and site-specific safety as required. + Ability to read, interpret, and apply technical specifications, drawings, and testing protocols to field activities. + Strong project management skills, including planning, scheduling, resource allocation, and cost control. + Excellent written and verbal communication skills for daily coordination and reporting. + Ability to lead, supervise, and mentor field staff while maintaining a collaborative, team-focused environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Familiarity with data center and mission-critical project execution and applicable owner or program standards, such as QTS Freedom Standards or similar frameworks. + Experience in construction management within automation, electrical, or controls environments, particularly in chilled-water and BMS projects. + Background in engineering management, controls engineering, project coordination, and change order management. + Experience working with data centers or other highly technical facilities is highly desirable. + Valid driver's license and passport to support travel to project sites across the United States. + Ability to manage extended overtime schedules and fluctuating manpower needs in a fast-paced project environment. + Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting capabilities in complex electrical and controls systems. + Demonstrated ability to build positive working relationships with general contractors, owners, and third-party partners. + Motivation to grow within an automation integrator environment and interest in expanding expertise across a variety of projects and technologies. Work Environment This role operates in both office and active field environments, including construction sites and operating data centers. The position requires up to 40% travel across the United States to active project sites, with per diem provided during travel. Work conditions include exposure to moderate-to-loud noise and frequent navigation of active construction areas and mechanical, electrical, and chilled-water system spaces, such as rooftops, mechanical rooms, and outdoor work areas. The role involves working at heights, climbing ladders, operating Mobile Elevated Work Platforms (MEWPs), and lifting objects up to 50 pounds, often while wearing required personal protective equipment.
