Job Title:
Construction Superintendent - Federal Precast Building Project Job Description This role oversees the interior construction phases of an $8M precast metal building project at a federal research campus in Gaithersburg. The structure, foundation, and roof are complete, and you will lead all remaining interior work, including electrical, low voltage, masonry, painting, and window installation. You ensure site safety, quality control, adherence to federal construction standards, and effective coordination with the client and project team. Responsibilities Oversee day-to-day field operations for the interior phases of an $8M precast metal building project, ensuring work progresses safely, on schedule, and within scope. Manage and coordinate all interior trades, including electrical, low voltage, masonry, painting, and window installation, to deliver high-quality workmanship. Maintain strict site safety standards, conduct regular safety walks, and enforce compliance with OSHA 30 guidelines and project safety protocols. Review and interpret construction drawings and specifications, and provide clear direction to subcontractors and field personnel. Perform ongoing construction inspections to verify work quality, adherence to plans, and compliance with federal construction and USACE-related standards where applicable. Implement and manage the project quality control plan, including documentation, inspections, and corrective actions in alignment with QCM requirements. Collaborate closely with the Project Manager and regional leadership, providing accurate updates on schedule, progress, issues, and risk mitigation. Serve as a primary on-site point of contact for the client, participate in client meetings, and maintain professional, personable communication. Identify field issues proactively, think creatively to develop solutions, and drive timely resolution with minimal impact to schedule or quality. Coordinate site logistics, including material deliveries, site access, and sequencing of trades to optimize productivity and minimize disruptions. Document daily site activities, including manpower, inspections, safety incidents, and progress, and maintain organized project records. Support federal project requirements, including adherence to campus rules, security expectations, and any applicable federal reporting or inspection processes. Essential Skills Minimum of 10 years of previous construction experience. At least 5 years of experience working on federal construction projects. Proven experience with precast building construction, particularly in later-phase interior build-out. Demonstrated ability to read, interpret, and work from construction drawings and specifications. Strong experience in site safety practices and construction inspection on active job sites. Hands-on experience managing multiple interior trades such as electrical, low voltage, masonry, painting, and window installation. OSHA 30 certification. Quality Control Manager (QCM) certification. Current First Aid/CPR certification. Experience with federal construction processes and standards, including exposure to USACE-related requirements. Ability to manage and oversee construction activities on a federal campus environment. Strong client-facing skills with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally. Proven ability to take initiative, work independently on site, and solve problems creatively under time and budget constraints. Solid organizational and documentation skills for tracking daily activities, safety, and quality control. Additional Skills & Qualifications Previous superintendent experience on federal projects involving complex interior scopes. Experience working on research or institutional campuses with heightened safety and security expectations. Project management abilities, including coordination with off-site leadership and participation in regular client meetings. Ability to foster positive relationships with subcontractors, inspectors, and client representatives. Comfort working within a growing organization where performance on current projects influences future local workload. Strong interpersonal skills and a personable demeanor suitable for regular client interaction. Work Environment Work takes place on site at a federal research campus in Gaithersburg, focused on an $8M precast metal building whose structure, foundation, and roof are already complete. The environment centers on interior construction activities, including electrical, low voltage, masonry, painting, and window installation, with active coordination among multiple trades. You will work closely with an on-site Project Manager, who is typically present two days per week for client meetings, and a regional director who attends client meetings monthly, providing support and oversight. The setting is a professional construction environment on a secure federal campus, requiring adherence to campus rules, safety protocols, and quality standards. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Gaithersburg, MD. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $100000.00 - $120000.00/yr.
