Job Description:
Flowtec is partnered with an established Developer based in Royal Oak, MI. They seek a Director of Construction to lead and build out their internal General Contracting function. This is a key, high-impact hire reporting directly to ownership, with responsibility for establishing structure, processes, and execution across a growing pipeline of work. $30M in active backlog, 3-year pipeline across retail and mixed-use developments Ongoing local development work, mixed-use and commercial projects ($3M-$10M range) Position Summary The Director of Construction will be responsible for building and operationalizing the GC arm of the business. This individual will oversee preconstruction, field execution, subcontractor management, and hiring, while working closely with ownership to scale operations. Key Responsibilities Lead the development and implementation of the company's GC operations Manage projects from preconstruction through completion, including estimating, scheduling, and execution Oversee project budgets, schedules, and field performance across multiple concurrent projects Establish processes, systems, and standards for construction delivery Coordinate closely with ownership on pipeline, strategy, and growth initiatives Hire, mentor, and manage construction staff as the team scales Qualifications Strong background with a General Contractor (commercial, retail, or mixed-use preferred) Experience operating beyond the project level (operations, leadership, or business unit responsibility) Ability to build subcontractor relationships and manage external partners Comfortable working in a hands-on, build-out environment with limited structure Entrepreneurial mindset with a willingness to take ownership and drive results Open to travel for the first 6-9 months Compensation & Benefits Base salary: $175,000 - $200,000, depending on experience Performance-based bonus structure 401(k) with 4% company match Medical, dental, and vision coverage (approximately 80% employer-paid) 20 Days of
