Job Description

Who We Are Vision:
Become the most respected heavy construction/materials company in the midwest.
Mission:
Heartstone Heavy exists to solve difficult problems through grit, ownership, and relentless execution. Founded in 1998, Heartstone Heavy is a fast-moving heavy construction company specializing in high volume contract crushing, concrete recycling, aggregate production, excavation, and site prep. We're growing fast, our margins are strong, and we're selective about the work we take on. We don't chase every bid. We do the right work well and build real relationships doing it. We're expanding in the Kansas City market and need the right person on the ground to help lead that growth. What We're Looking For We're looking for someone rare. Someone who can learn fast to build an estimate that wins — and run the job without needing their hand held. Someone with real relationships in KC who knows how to use them. Someone who drives past a job site and is already thinking about how they'd do it better. If you've put in years in heavy civil or site work and you're tired of a company that moves slow, talks a lot, and rewards average — this might be exactly what you've been waiting for. What You'll Do Find Work and Win It Help build relationships with GCs, developers, site owners, quarries, and municipalities across the KC market Develop accurate estimates and competitive proposals that win the right work at the right margin Help evaluate which opportunities are worth pursuing and which ones aren't Identify ways to expand our scope as the market and company grow Run the Jobs Own projects from start to finish — scope, schedule, budget, and production targets Keep field operations moving without constant oversight from ownership Track the numbers that matter: tonnage, machine hours, job cost, and margin. And act on them Manage change orders, permitting, documentation, and client communication Navigate MSHA, DOT, and air permitting requirements confidently Build the Team Recruit, screen, and onboard skilled heavy equipment operators Develop a reliable bench of operators to support growth and reduce single points of failure Set clear expectations in the field and hold people to them Be the kind of leader people actually want to work for Build the Systems Help move critical knowledge out of people's heads and into repeatable processes Improve current estimating tools, production tracking, and job reporting systems that scale Utilize drone technology for stockpile measurement and production analysis What You Bring 7+ years managing heavy civil, site prep, excavation, or large volume aggregate/grading related projects Real estimating experience. Not just plugging numbers into someone else's template An established network in KC Field experience at some level: superintendent, foreman, or operator. You understand what happens on the ground The ability to be credible with a GC, a city inspector, and an equipment operator on the same day Kansas City based Nice to Have Experience in aggregate production or concrete/asphalt recycling Bilingual in Spanish — our crews are primarily Spanish-speaking and it matters Familiarity with MSHA regulations and permitting OSHA 10 or 30 certification Experience with HCSS, Procore, Bluebeam, or similar software Compensation Base salary: $100,000-$125,000 depending on experience Performance bonus Company vehicle Two weeks PTO after 90 days Real growth potential — this role expands as the company does We don't currently offer health insurance or a 401(k). We're upfront about that. What we're offering is a seat at the table early — in a company with strong margins, real momentum, and room to grow. For the right person, that opportunity is worth more than a benefits package at a company going nowhere.
