Job Title:
Construction Manager - Underground Utilities Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Construction Manager with a strong background in underground utilities construction to oversee complex, utilities‑driven projects throughout Central New Jersey . This role is ideal for a hands‑on leader who thrives in both field and office environments and can manage projects from pre‑construction through closeout . The Construction Manager will play a critical role in coordinating schedules, budgets, materials, manpower, and subcontractors while ensuring safety, quality, and productivity every step of the way. Key Responsibilities Plan, schedule, and execute projects in logical phases to meet budgetary and timeline commitments Analyze estimates and collaborate with stakeholders to determine labor, equipment, and material requirements Conduct regular site inspections to ensure compliance with safety standards and contract requirements Interpret and administer prime contracts, subcontractor agreements, vendor contracts, and union agreements Develop, track, and reconcile Schedules of Values for internal teams and subcontractors, ensuring accurate billing Monitor project man‑hours and production quantities against billable units Review and maintain a thorough understanding of project plans and specifications Track budgets and make informed financial decisions to support project success Procure long‑lead and specialty materials to support construction schedules Evaluate construction methodologies to ensure best practices for safety, quality, and productivity Anticipate and proactively resolve challenges related to weather, delays, emergencies, and scope changes Perform frequent job‑site visits to oversee progress and reinforce safety expectations Evaluate performance of field teams and subcontractors; report on high‑ and low‑performing partners Build and maintain strong relationships with existing clients while supporting new business development efforts Essential Qualifications 5+ years of experience in Construction Management Proven experience in underground utilities construction Ability to manage projects independently from concept through completion Experience with project management, site development, and bidding Preferred Skills & Experience Ability to perform quantity take‑offs and bid reviews Experience processing RFIs, Change Orders, and Submittals Proven success managing projects in both field and office environments Strong scheduling and project controls experience Working knowledge of gas, water, sewer, and electric utilities Willingness and ability to travel throughout New Jersey Work Environment & Schedule Combination of field and office work Approximately 70% onsite , 30% office‑based Works closely with foremen to support operations (does not directly supervise crews) Typical schedule: 7:00 AM - 4:00 PM Occasional Saturdays; workweeks may extend up to 50 hours Compensation & Benefits Company‑provided vehicle 401(k) retirement plan Medical benefits Two weeks of vacation Annual performance bonus Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Hamilton, NJ. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $40.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
