Under general supervision, manages the technical, managerial, and supervisory custodial and recycling support to the University to ensure all facilities are properly maintained and cleaned in accordance with appropriate health and safety standards for educational facilities and that all materials are recycled in accordance with the NM Environmental & Health Department. Develops and implements goals and standards for custodial and recycling services at the Physical Plant. May be required to perform shift work.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Manages the custodial services activities and personnel, to include training, procurement, and personnel management; provides technical expertise in custodial areas specific to educational facilities. Performs the planning and develops strategies to accomplish the unit's mission, and manages project cleaning work activities. Implements cleaning and housekeeping strategies that will achieve overall success in accomplishing desired quality performance standards. Oversees, supervises, and schedules a significant work force within the custodial, setup, and recycling departments, which includes work allocation, training, and enforcement of internal procedures & controls, and problem resolution; maintains records of employee absences, and verifies accuracy of time sheets for employees assigned. evaluates performance and makes recommendations for personnel actions; motivates employees to achieve peak productivity and performance. Provides information, answers to and resolves customer complaints, and advises customers on products and/or services, ensuring customer satisfaction. Responsible for providing updated MSDS information/sheets to the custodians. Responsible for routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and making minor repairs to custodial equipment. Oversees the restoration and specialized cleaning of wood floors on the campus. Assists with custodial and setup work when short staffed. Develops and implements systems and processes to establish and maintain quality controls and records for the custodial department. Verifies and certifies invoices for custodial products. Coordinates air testing, as well as the removal of asbestos, mold, etc. on campus. Oversees and coordinates the renovation of flooring throughout the University. Assists and oversees the assembly of furniture and small carpentry projects on campus. Works closely with contractors on estimates, invoices, and materials needed for renovations. Ability to monitor and/or maintain quality control standards. Ability to resolve customer complaints and concerns .Ability to maintain recordkeeping systems and procedures. Skilled in the use of computers, preferably in a PC, Windows-based operating environment. Knowledge of all aspects of custodial services. Ability to communicate effectively. Knowledge of customer service standards. Knowledge of specified products and equipment related to custodial and recycling services. Knowledge of organizational structure, workflow, and operating procedures. Ability to provide technical guidance and training to end users. Ability to work both independently and in a team environment. Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments. Ability to foster a cooperative work environment. Responsible for working with the Camps & Conferences Office to schedule, coordinate, and verify all setup schematics and equipment needed for setups and tear downs of camps, conferences, special events, recreational, and a wide range of other activities. Oversees daily event management of setups, to include unlocking of doors, cleanliness of meeting rooms, and scheduling and coordinating of available staff to fill in for events. Provides customer service, safety, and technical training for department employees. Ensures adherence to established University and departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance programs, and safety standards. Oversees the operations of the Recycling Center and its personnel, to include work allocation, technical and safety training, enforcement of internal procedures & controls, and problem resolution. Maintains records of employee/work study absences, and verifies accuracy of time sheets for employees assigned. Oversees the collection of recyclable materials from designated areas throughout the campus according to established procedures and the New Mexico Solid Waste Act. Provides and ensures customer service to external customers. Operates and oversees the safety of a variety of recycling equipment and vehicles, such as baling machines, forklifts, and trucks; oversees the maintenance, safety, and repairs of all recycling equipment. Assists with recycling duties when short staffed. Answers questions and promotes the recycling program to employees, students, and the community; instructs and organizes trainings for all employees on appropriate material handling. Oversees the flow of recycled materials and makes recommendations for number of bins provided and frequency of pickups. Oversees, ensures care, and manages the proper disposal of chemicals and/or biohazard waste materials that are improperly placed in recycle bins. Oversees the preparation process of newspapers, cardboard, glass, metals, and other materials for recycling. Ensures care in the proper handling and use of equipment and supplies. Perform other job-related duties as assigned. QualificationsMINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION:
High school diploma orGED. EXPERIENCE
Five (5) years of related work experience.PREFERENCE
Bachelor's Degree in any field. 3 years paid supervisory experience.EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS
Must be willing to work weekends, evenings, and odd hours as required. Must be willing to respond as needed on an on-call basis. Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico driver's license.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

10% of work is performed in an office setting and 90% is performed campus-wide. Work with frequent interruptions and a diverse customer base. Work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment.
