We're seeking an experienced Construction Manager (CM-3) who thrives in the field, excels at leading teams, and can drive safe, high-quality execution on major capital projects. If you're motivated by meaningful work, technical challenge, and project delivery excellence, this is an exceptional opportunity As a Manager Construction 3, you will oversee the full life cycle of assigned construction projects at LANL-ensuring they are delivered safely, on schedule, and within budget. This role requires strong on-site presence and hands-on leadership. Key responsibilities include: Project Delivery and Field Leadership Direct and coordinate field construction activities to ensure safe, compliant, high-quality execution. Review construction estimates, schedules, budgets, drawings, and specifications for constructability and cost effectiveness. Oversee craft and field execution staffing, materials, and field operations. Ensure all safety and security requirements are integrated into daily work, with authority to stop work when needed Cross-Functional and Technical Management Collaborate closely with Project Management Design Engineering, Procurement, Project Controls, and other functional groups to align priorities and resolve issues. Provide guidance and coaching to Site Managers to support project success. Contribute expertise during project planning, proposal development, and review meetings involving budgets and schedules. Project Controls & Performance Ensure field procedures and training programs are implemented appropriately. Monitor field-level distributable expenses and construction personnel performance. SHIFTWORK
What You Need Project and Construction Management Expertise Demonstrated success leading complex construction or program-management efforts, including scope, schedule, budget, risk, and change control. Thorough knowledge of construction operations, subcontract management, quality, technologies, and government compliance requirements Decision-Making & Problem Solving Ability to acquire resources, coordinate multi-discipline teams, resolve issues, analyze causes and effects, and drive constructive solutions. Leadership & Communication Strong interpersonal skills and experience coaching, leading, and engaging teams. Ability to communicate clearly with internal/external partners and present to senior leadership or federal sponsors.
Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Scientific discipline, Construction Management, Project Management, or related field, plus 5 years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination. DOE Order 426.2
A:
Requires a bachelor of science degree in engineering or related science or technology, and 4 years of nuclear experience. Job-related education or experience may be substituted on a case-by-case basis. The degree may be used to substitute up to 50 percent of the experience requirement per section I 4.e of the Contractor Requirements Document (CRD).
Additional Requirements:
Q-level security clearance (U.S. citizenship required except in rare cases). DOE Order 426.2. Subject to ongoing drug/alcohol testing and periodic medical/psychological evaluations. Restrictions apply to citizens of certain countries per the National Defense Authorization Act. Desired Qualifications Previous DOE contractor experience delivering construction projects. Experience with nuclear quality standards (NQA-1). Familiarity with LANL construction operations, procedures, and union craft supervision.
Work Location:
The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM USA. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Work Environment & Essential Functions:
On-site construction environment; indoor/outdoor. Physical requirements may include walking, stair climbing, kneeling, and balancing. Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Clearance:
Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements• for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad. •Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. This position is subject to DOE Order 426.2A, Personnel Selection, Training, and Qualification Requirements for DOE Nuclear Facilities, which establishes entry-level requirements to ensure candidates selected for specific positions can successfully perform the requirements of the job.
New-Employment Drug Test:
The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer. Term position: Regular-status Laboratory employees applying for term-status positions may retain regular status with approval of the cognizant Principle Associate Director.
Incentive Compensation Program:
Position is eligible to participate in the Triad Incentive Compensation Program. You must be in an eligible position for a minimum of 3 months, before July 1st and remain in an eligible position as of the end of the fiscal year, September 30th. The annual distribution is prorated based on the number of months in the eligible position.
