Manager, EH&S ChemLab Operations Consolidated Edison Company of York $115,000.00 - $155,000.00 / yr United States, York, Astoria Jun 17, 2026 Overview The manager will provide oversight and leadership of the ChemLab Operations team. The manager will lead ChemLab Specialist(s) and technicians in Special Analysis (SA) and the Field Group (FG) in providing analytical and field sampling services in support of ChemLab and Company Operations. This role will provide oversight of laboratory operations and work closely with customers to anticipate, plan and execute requested services. The manager will ensure activities are performed in accordance with applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), monitor and maintain the ChemLabs budget, establish and enforce department goals and performance standards, and identify trends and improvement opportunities. Training Plan. Responsibilities Core Responsibilities
Directly manage a diverse supervisory team and provide indirect oversight to union staff.
Provide planning, direct oversight and technical guidance to the Field Group and Special Analysis teams in the execution of their regular duties. Ensure close coordination between lab resources to efficiently support the objectives and needs of Lab customers.
Liaise with project managers, planners, supervisors, EHS staff and others to understand their current and future sampling and analysis needs. Use customer information to plan Lab work and resource requirements in both the short and long term while maintaining capacity to manage emergency work.
Identify and monitor trends to recommend process/program improvements to drive high quality work output. Ensure group compliance with relevant quality programs. Identify and implement program improvement opportunities and maintain a high level of effectiveness and expertise.
Provide direction in the implementation of the ChemLabs environmental, health and safety programs, including completing Job Safety Assessments (JSAs) and Job Site Safety Exchanges (JSSEs). Ensure procedural compliance and consistent work product across technicians.
Provide general administrative oversight of the ChemLabs Maximo records. Create and manage service requests, work orders, and ensure completion of equipment PMs and CMs.
Develop and maintain a high level of expertise in the use of the Company's various computer systems such as the various financial systems (HR Payroll, Oracle Business Software), laboratory systems (e.g. Chromeleon, LIMS, Maximo), and the Microsoft Office products.
Ensure instruments, vehicles and equipment are fully maintained and operational, and staff is fully trained, available (DOCs, licenses, etc.) and effective.
Responsible for staffing the Emergency Duty Supervisory schedule and provide a responsible ChemLab contact from all Company Operating Organizations during off-shifts and weekends.
Respond to field emergencies on off-shifts and weekends including, but not limited to, PFT leak searching activities.
Responsible for working greater than 8 hours per shift on an as-needed basis.
Perform other tasks as assigned. Qualifications Required Education/Experience Bachelor's Degree and 5 years of relevant experience or
Master's Degree and 3 years of relevant experience
Preferred Education/Experience Bachelor's Degree in Chemical, Environmental, Physical or Biological Sciences, or Engineering and 5 years of relevant experience including experience in a laboratory, related technical field, or project management.
Master's Degree in Chemical, Environmental, Physical or Biological Sciences, or Engineering and 3 years of relevant experience including experience in a laboratory, related technical field, or project management.
Relevant Work Experience Completion of position-specific EH&S training within 1 year, required.
Previous supervisory experience, required.
Familiarity with the CEHSPs, preferred.
Familiarity with environmental sampling methods and industry best practices, preferred.
Familiarity with analytical methods, preferred.
Familiarity with utility operations, preferred.
Project Management experience or coursework, preferred.
Experience with work management systems (ex Maximo), preferred.
At least 24 college semester credit hours in chemistry, preferred.
3-5 years work experience in a laboratory, related technical field or project management, preferred.

Ability to be approved to wear and use either a full or half-face respirator, without facial hair or other conditions that may interfere with the seal, in accordance with OSHA regulations
Ability to be approved to wear and use either a full or half-face respirator and self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), without facial hair or other conditions that may interfere with the seal, in accordance with OSHA regulations
Ability to climb in and out of manholes and excavations
Stand, walk, and climb ladders and stairs for the duration of the workday
Stand, walk, lift, climb, bend, kneel, stoop, and/or reach for the duration of the workday
Ability to use hand tools and operate heavy machinery, i.e. jackhammers
Ability to travel to company locations to work on storm restoration and heat contingencies
Use hand-eye coordination to adjust controls on equipment
Wear necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), i.e. fire-retardant clothing and safety harnesses
Work rotating shifts, including nights, midnights, weekends, and holidays
Work with equipment with a manufacturer weight rating of 350lbs
Use equipment with a maximum weight rating of 375lbs when wearing and/or carrying 25lbs of clothing and equipment
Additional Physical Demands
The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
Must be able and willing to travel within Company service territory, as needed.
Position requires flexibility to work outdoors and rotating shifts.
