Tuesday-Saturday 7:30am-4:00pm
Position Overview:
This individual will lead volunteer groups through all aspects of residential construction on a Habitat Buffalo build site. A Site Supervisor must balance the responsibility of building quality homes on time and within budget, while providing a great experience for volunteers, donors and community members. The candidate must have start-to-finish, hands on experience with residential construction including site preparation, demolition, framing, plumbing, electrical, insulation, drywall, interior finish, painting, siding, window and door installation and lawn installation. This individual will be required to plan and communicate the resources needed each day based on the type of work anticipated to be performed. This position represents Habitat Buffalo each day on the build site, alongside fellow staff-members and volunteers, and must embody the values and mission of the organization.
Construction Responsibilities:
Oversee day-to-day aspects of various construction projects Manage on-site volunteer labor, including daily volunteer experience and anticipated volunteer need Deliver daily Habitat Buffalo introduction including overview of organization, site safety orientation and detailed work plan for the day. Train volunteer groups
  • including homebuying program participants, inexperienced volunteers and volunteer groups, and experienced, recurring volunteers
  • to perform daily construction tasks, in order to meet project goals Communicate regularly with Volunteer Coordinator regarding volunteer needs and feedback

e. volunteers were late or didn't show, volunteers didn't meet project needs, volunteers excelled and should be followed-up with Work with Construction Manager to develop and plan scope of work on each assigned project with project schedule to completion Manage resources needed for projects based on the project schedule, including volunteer needs, and materials according in a timely manner. Perform general phases of construction in the assigned order, as outlined in project schedule Communicate daily with Construction Manager on materials, performance, project schedule. Utilize software and hardware intended for volunteer management and tracking build schedules. Stay up to date with technology updates and organization use. Supervise all aspects of site safety, keeping site and materials clean and secure to prevent theft and to avoid hazards Reliability and attendance
  • Habitat Buffalo construction sites have volunteers on site that require the Site Supervisor to be present.
Receive and submit to construction manager all packing, delivery slips and purchase receipts on a weekly basis. Support other departments at
Habitat Buffalo:
Prepare for and participate in event builds coordinated by the Development team Represent Habitat Buffalo for sponsored volunteer groups to help meet fundraising objectives Accommodate homebuyer program participants as they work through program requirements by gaining sweat equity hours. Perform other construction-related tasks as required by Construction Manager to continue progress on all current projects
Additional Responsibilities:
Attend internal staff meetings and required staff development trainings, including Habitat for Humanity's Competent Person Safety Training Maintain assigned construction vehicle, cell phone and iPad. Follow and enforce Habitat Buffalo safety protocols Promote a positive work atmosphere for staff, volunteers, and Habitat program participants on site Stay up-to-date on organization-wide communication and participate in cross-departmental initiatives Attend fundraising events as required by CEO Stand by Habitat Buffalo's core values and help to promote our mission on a daily basis
Required Qualifications:
High School Diploma/GED 10 years minimum residential construction experience Excellent verbal communication skills, in particular, the ability to explain construction tasks to inexperienced volunteers and homebuyers whose first language may not be English Excellent organizational and time management skills Strong computer skills, including familiarity with Excel and Word Experience working with volunteers
Current NYS Driver's License Physical Requirements:
This position requires regular presence on active construction sites and the ability to walk over uneven terrain, stand and move for extended periods, climb stairs and ladders, and occasionally bend, crouch, kneel, and reach to observe work in progress. The role also requires the ability to lift and carry materials or equipment weighing up to 25-50 pounds on a regular basis, visually inspect work for quality and safety compliance, and communicate effectively in environments with elevated noise levels while wearing required personal protective equipment. Work may be performed outdoors in varying weather conditions. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.
