Director, Construction Technology Babcock & Wilcox Company - 3.7 Akron, OH Job Details 3 hours ago Qualifications Customer communication Full Job Description The Construction Technology Engineering Manager provides leadership and oversight for the engineering function supporting Construction Operations across the United States, delivering technical expertise, planning resources, and engineered solutions for the temporary installation of systems used to transport materials at complex job sites. This role is responsible for managing the engineering team, including training and development, performance management, scheduling of resources, and continuous improvement initiatives, while ensuring the delivery of high- quality engineering products. The position ensures all engineering activities, design deliverables, and technical interfaces with internal stakeholders, clients, and suppliers are executed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and in a cost- effective manner to support successful field operations Lead and support engineering input for major proposals, including review of customer specifications, development of technical exceptions and clarifications, definition of project execution strategies, coordination of guarantee approaches, and alignment of engineering resource plans. Leverage team expertise to develop engineered approaches that are simple, efficient, and effective for field execution. Provide technical support during negotiations with EPC contractors, owners, engineers, and key suppliers as required. 2. Develop and manage engineering man-hour estimates, forecasts, and resource plans to support proposals and active projects. Monitor and adjust departmental workload and backlog to ensure appropriate staffing levels and alignment with operational demands. 3. Oversee the development and application of engineering design methodologies to meet project performance requirements, ensuring solutions are constructible and optimized for simplicity, efficiency, and effectiveness in the field. Collaborate with internal engineering and operations teams to identify and implement best practices. 4. Establish, maintain, and enforce engineering standards, procedures, and quality expectations. Ensure the accuracy, practicality, and usability of engineering deliverables—including drawings, calculations, reports, and technical packages—through coordination with technical specialists and cross-functional teams. 5. Provide leadership and oversight of the engineering team through performance management, coaching, and development planning. Foster a culture that emphasizes practical, high-quality engineering solutions that support safe and efficient construction. 6. Serve as the primary technical interface with construction operations, clients, suppliers, and field personnel, providing guidance and resolving technical issues to support safe, efficient, and effective project execution. 7. Identify, investigate, and resolve complex or recurring technical challenges across projects, implementing corrective actions and incorporating lessons learned to continuously improve engineered solutions and overall performance. 8. Ensure all engineering activities comply with project technical requirements, including structural, mechanical, rigging, and system design considerations. Provide direct engineering support on complex or high-risk projects, ensuring solutions remain practical and executable in the field.
DUTIES 9.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the department by enhancing work processes, tools, and methodologies, with a focus on delivering streamlined, efficient, and constructible engineering solutions. Support cross-functional collaboration with operations, procurement, and business development to improve overall project delivery performance. 10. Lead recruitment and workforce planning efforts to build and sustain a high-performing engineering team, ensuring the department is appropriately staffed and developed to support increasing project complexity, evolving technical requirements, and growing workload demands. 11. Perform additional duties as required to support departmental objectives and organizational priorities.
Preferred Work Experience:
1. Bachelor's degree in Engineering 2. Minimum of 12 years of progressive engineering experience, demonstrating increasing levels of responsibility and leadership

1. Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively across engineering, construction operations, and cross-functional teams to deliver coordinated and practical solutions. 2. Proven capability to develop and implement innovative, constructible engineering solutions that are simple, efficient, and effective in the field. 3. Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey technical information to diverse audiences including field personnel, leadership, clients, and suppliers. 4. Experience supporting engineering and construction projects within the power generation, utility, or heavy industrial sectors, with an understanding of field execution requirements and constraints.
