Responsible for managing a portfolio valued at approximately $2-3 million annually, this role ensures excellence in service delivery while actively identifying and pursuing enhancement opportunities on client properties. With a keen eye for landscape performance and client needs, the Account Manager regularly assesses properties, recommends value-added solutions, and collaborates with internal teams to scope, price, and execute enhancement work. This role demands a proactive communicator who can translate issues into opportunities, build long-term client trust, and contribute to GLC's reputation for industry-leading landscape solutions. This position requires you to combine technical landscape knowledge, sales acumen, and strong organizational skills to deliver high-quality service, expand account value, and strengthen client partnerships over time. This is a full-time, exempt position with a competitive base salary, plus performance-based bonus and commission opportunities tied to revenue booked and closed projects. Compensation is commensurate with experience and results. Reporting to the Director of Sales Operations, this role may eventually oversee other team members and help lead the continued development of the landscape construction sales department.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
Strong understanding of how client relationships contribute to lead generation and future sales opportunities Proven ability to build trust and maintain strong relationships with clients, vendors, and team members—leveraging those connections to foster repeat business, long-term partnerships, and future sales opportunities. Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply construction drawings to support accurate planning and execution. Ability to oversee and maintain bid schedules with precision to meet proposal deadlines and client expectations. Exhibit strong verbal communication skills, with sound judgment on when and how to effectively relay updates or changes to internal teams, clients, and external partners. Understanding of the commercial bidding and sales cycle, including RFIs, RFQs, RFPs, and preconstruction processes Familiarity with commercial landscape construction, estimating, contract processes, and project lifecycle phases in a bid-build setting. Understanding of job costing, budgeting, and financial tracking for commercial landscape construction projects Skilled in managing multiple projects on tight deadlines, coordinating handoffs, and supporting subcontractor scheduling Willingness to learn bidding platforms (e.g., BuildingConnected, Blue Book) and CRM software (e.g., Aspire) Valid driver's license with ability to travel locally for job walks, client meetings, and networking Willingness to engage in continued learning and professional development
Preferred:
Associate's Degree or higher in one of the following (or equivalent experience): Landscape Architecture, Landscape Construction or Landscape Design, Construction Management, Horticulture or Environmental Design Ability to clearly articulate project scope, timelines, and unique requirements to ensure alignment across all stakeholders. AutoCAD or landscape design software experience Familiarity with sales software or sales tracking tools (e.g., Aspire) Licenses and Certifications Valid Ohio driver's license that is not currently suspended or revoked (driving record must meet the insurance carrier's policy requirements and Grunder Landscaping Co. driving standard) Position Duties and Functions Build and maintain strong relationships with general contractors, developers, architects, and commercial property managers to generate ongoing bid invitations and referrals. Stay attuned to client needs and project opportunities that may lead to additional work; actively supporting the team by identifying and communicating potential add-on services. Consistently prioritizes the client experience and seeks to enhance satisfaction, trust, and future engagement with GLC. Understands how individual projects fit into GLC's broader business strategy and works cross-functionally to support organizational goals. Represent GLC's brand and core values in all interactions, reinforcing a positive reputation and creating a foundation for long-term relationships in the commercial landscape market. Assisting in the creation of project plans and timelines, including defining objectives, establishing schedules, and identifying resource needs. Coordinate project handoffs with the operations team to ensure alignment between preconstruction planning and field execution. Serve as the primary communication point for the project, translating technical information and facilitating information flow between clients, general contractors, suppliers, and internal team members to ensure the client experience is seamless and professional from start to finish. Manage the proposal process from initial lead to final submission, including scope development, pricing strategy, and formatting. Review plans, specifications, and bid documents to accurately develop estimates for landscape construction projects, including hardscapes, plantings, and site elements. Monitor and manage the status of active and upcoming projects to ensure workflow remains balanced, deadlines are met, and handoffs are smooth across departments. Conduct job site visits to evaluate site conditions, clarify project scope, or support project planning Generate a high volume of competitive bids and position each proposal for successful project execution. Responsible for managing a portfolio valued at approximately $2.5-3 million annually Monitor industry trends and construction activity through business journals, project publications, and development news to identify potential opportunities within our service area. Proactively track emerging projects and pursue relationship-building with key stakeholders to generate new business leads Participate in industry events and client meetings to represent the company and uncover new project leads. Maintain an understanding of local codes, construction safety practices, and industry standards relevant to commercial landscape construction. Utilize bid and CRM platforms (e.g., BuildingConnected, Aspire) to track leads, manage bids, and maintain organized project records. Contribute to a team culture that values accountability, growth, and continuous improvement Attend company and client meetings as required. Perform all other duties as assigned. Working Conditions Requires constant contact with candidates, coworkers, and the public. Work is normally performed in air-conditioned/heated facility. Majority of work is performed at a desk. May require visits to outdoor job sites periodically. This is a full-time position, with the majority of work taking place Monday through Friday. However, due to the nature of the role, candidates should expect to often work outside typical office hours. This includes evenings, early mornings, and occasional weekends to attend networking events, client meetings, and other business development opportunities essential to growing and maintaining strong relationships. Flexibility and a willingness to be present where opportunities arise are key to success in this role. Special Equipment Must possess working knowledge of office machines and equipment including, but not limited to: desktop computer and all related software, printers, multi-line phone systems, copier, scanner, and other general office equipment.
