Job Description

Overview:
Civil West Construction is looking for an experienced Heavy Civil Superintendent to lead field operations on public infrastructure projects throughout Oregon and Southwest Washington. We are a fast-growing heavy civil contractor focused on underground utilities, roadway and highway improvements, drainage systems, earthwork, structural concrete and public infrastructure. This role is critical to keeping projects moving safely, efficiently, and professionally while maintaining strong communication between the field, project management, and ownership. We're looking for someone who can lead crews, plan ahead, communicate clearly, solve problems quickly, and take ownership of the work from startup through completion. This is a leadership role for someone who understands heavy civil construction, knows how to keep crews productive, and takes pride in building quality infrastructure that serves our communities. This role also requires someone who stays active in the field and leads from the front. We need a superintendent who is willing to jump in a machine, help solve problems, support the crew wherever needed, and do what it takes to keep the project moving. At Civil West, titles do not get in the way of the mission—we work as a team and get the job done right. Responsibilities Lead daily field operations on heavy civil and public works projects Manage crews performing excavation, grading, underground utility installation, demolition, concrete, and related infrastructure work Coordinate manpower, subcontractors, trucking, materials, and equipment Review plans, specifications, schedules, and project requirements before work begins Work closely with project managers and office staff to plan work and stay ahead of project needs Maintain daily production, track quantities, and identify schedule impacts early Coordinate inspections, utility locates, subcontractors, vendors, and deliveries Enforce Civil West safety standards and maintain a clean, organized jobsite Ensure work is built per plans, specifications, grade, and project schedule Troubleshoot field issues quickly and communicate solutions Lead by example with professionalism, accountability, and urgency Qualifications 5+ years of heavy civil or underground utility construction experience Previous superintendent, foreman, or field leadership experience preferred Strong understanding of excavation, grading, trenching, underground utilities, drainage, concrete, and site development Ability to read civil plans, profiles, utility sheets, and specifications Experience coordinating with municipalities, inspectors, engineers, and subcontractors Strong leadership and crew management skills Able to stay organized and plan multiple steps ahead Comfortable with schedules, daily reports, and field documentation Valid driver's license and reliable transportation Equipment operating experience are a plus What We Offer Competitive pay based on experience Company vehicle or vehicle allowance depending on experience Paid time off and holidays Medical benefits Room for growth with a fast-moving heavy civil contractor Opportunity to lead meaningful infrastructure work throughout Oregon and Washington At Civil West Construction, we value people who show up, work hard, support the team, and take pride in doing quality work.
