About CDL Utilities CDL Utilities is a leading telecommunications construction company specializing in underground and aerial installation, excavation, fiber optic and coax cabling, splicing, and maintenance services. For over 20 years, we've built a reputation across Long Island for quality workmanship, strong client relationships, and a commitment to safety. Our work primarily supports commercial clients across telecom, electric, gas, and water utility systems. Position Overview CDL Utilities is seeking a Construction Project Manager to support and coordinate project workflow and field operations across all projects, with experience in general construction and/or utility construction preferred. This is a hands-on, field-driven role for someone comfortable managing multiple job sites, interacting with municipalities and customers, and translating field conditions into clear, executable plans for crews. You will be responsible for reviewing job requirements, conducting site surveys, developing detailed job layouts, and coordinating all pre-construction activities including permitting, scheduling, and project closeout. This role works closely with operations and plays a key part in ensuring projects are set up efficiently and executed successfully. Key Responsibilities Review customer-provided job scopes, prints, and requirements Conduct site visits to perform field surveys, inspections, and feasibility assessments Develop detailed job layouts (hand-drawn or digital) including measurements and step-by-step installation approach across general construction, utility, or telecom projects Plan and coordinate all pre-construction activities including utility markouts (811) and permitting Interface with municipalities to submit, track, and follow up on permit applications Coordinate with internal teams to gather required documentation (insurance, bonds, etc.) Communicate directly with homeowners, business owners, and customers to schedule access and provide project updates Collaborate with operations, coordinators, and field crews to ensure jobs are fully prepared prior to construction Lead daily schedule reviews with team leads and support ongoing project tracking Identify potential field challenges early and proactively communicate solutions Track progress of new and ongoing projects and maintain accurate documentation Ensure quality control, as-builts, and proper project closeout documentation Assist in preparing accurate project estimates, including takeoffs, pricing, and scope review Monitor project costs and performance to ensure profitability is maintained throughout the lifecycle Identify out-of-scope work and proactively request, price, and track change orders as needed Qualifications 2+ years of experience in construction project management (general construction, utility, or telecom construction preferred) Strong knowledge of construction methods, job site coordination, and field operations Experience in underground construction, aerial work, or fiber optic projects is a plus Ability to read and interpret prints, construction drawings, and site plans Experience with utility markouts (811) and permitting processes preferred Strong communication skills with the ability to work with crews, customers, and municipalities Highly organized with strong time management and follow-through Comfortable working independently in a fast-paced, field-based environment Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, SharePoint, etc.) Valid driver's license and willingness to travel throughout Nassau and Suffolk Counties Preferred Qualifications Background in construction management, engineering, or related field Experience with AutoCAD or similar design tools Bilingual (Spanish) is a plus Experience in telecom, utility, or infrastructure construction is a plus What We're Looking For Someone who is field-oriented and proactive—not desk-bound Comfortable managing multiple moving parts across several job sites Detail-oriented when it comes to planning, documentation, and execution Strong communicator who can bridge the gap between field crews, customers, and internal teams Compensation & Benefits Full-time position (40-60 hours per week) Competitive pay based on experience Bonus opportunities 401(k) with company match Health, dental, and vision insurance Flexible spending account / HSA Paid time off Additional Information Based out of Hicksville, NY with travel throughout Long Island Field-based role; not remote CDL Utilities is an Equal Opportunity Employer and complies with all applicable federal, state, and local employment laws.
