Job Overview We are seeking a dynamic and strategic Director of Construction Estimating to lead our estimating department with energy and precision. In this pivotal role, you will oversee the development of accurate cost estimates for a wide range of construction projects, ensuring competitive pricing while maintaining profitability. Your expertise will drive the success of our projects from initial conception through to execution, fostering collaboration across teams and stakeholders. Duties Lead and manage the construction estimating team, providing mentorship and setting clear performance expectations to ensure high-quality deliverables. Develop detailed, accurate project estimates by analyzing blueprints, specifications, and site conditions using industry-standard tools such as HeavyBid and Bluebeam. Collaborate closely with project managers, contractors, and clients to negotiate contracts and pricing strategies that align with project goals and budget constraints. Oversee the preparation of comprehensive bid packages, ensuring all aspects of construction costs—including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor quotes—are thoroughly evaluated. Implement effective cost control measures throughout the project lifecycle to monitor expenses, identify variances, and recommend corrective actions. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of construction trends, market rates, and new estimating technologies to enhance accuracy and efficiency. Ensure compliance with contractual obligations and industry standards while fostering strong relationships with vendors and subcontractors for optimal pricing negotiations. Conduct regular reviews of estimates to validate assumptions, improve processes, and support strategic decision-making. Qualifications Proven experience in construction estimating with a strong background in heavy civil or commercial projects. Extensive knowledge of construction management principles, contracts, and project management practices. Proficiency with estimating software such as HeavyBid; experience with Bluebeam is highly desirable. Demonstrated ability to negotiate effectively with vendors, subcontractors, and clients to secure favorable terms. Strong understanding of construction site operations and field activities to accurately assess costs related to on-site work. Excellent analytical skills combined with attention to detail for precise cost analysis and pricing accuracy. Effective leadership skills with the ability to motivate teams and foster a collaborative work environment.
