Job Description

KALCON is seeking a self-starting Electrical Substation Project Manager to support data center construction projects as an Owner's Representative. Daily responsibilities include oversight of contractors performance, design coordination and engineering reviews, schedule and cost validation, and management of submittals, RFIs, change orders, and progress reporting, while also supporting utility coordination, permitting and interconnection efforts, stakeholder meeting facilitation, and participation in testing, commissioning, and energization activities. Regular collaboration and coordination are required with the Client, developers, contractors, utilities, and external stakeholders to ensure successful project execution aligned with scope, schedule, budget, quality, and safety requirements.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or related technical discipline 7-10 years of experience managing electrical infrastructure or power delivery projects; experience supporting data centers, mission critical facilities, utilities, or industrial power systems required Direct experience with electrical substation systems, including procurement, installation, testing, and commissioning of high-voltage equipment Experience with Contractor, CM at Risk, or Owner's Representative delivery models PMP, CCM, PE, or equivalent professional certification preferred Working knowledge of substations, transformers, switchgear, relays/protection systems, transmission/distribution systems, and balance of plant components Proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and scheduling tools (Primavera P6, MS Project, or equivalent) Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and coordinate vendors, engineers, contractors, utilities, and operations personnel Strong analytical, problem-solving, and risk mitigation skills Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interface with executives, engineers, contractors, vendors, utilities, and
AHJs Duties and Responsibilities:
Serve as the Owner's Representative and primary point of contact for the Client, coordinating with the data center developer, contractor, utilities, and external stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle. Provide governance and oversight of the contractor's performance, ensuring alignment with approved scope, schedule, budget, quality standards, and safety requirements. Oversee and participate in design development, engineering reviews, and constructability evaluations, ensuring compliance with data center power requirements, utility interconnection standards, and regulatory constraints. Lead and facilitate design reviews, progress meetings, and stakeholder coordination sessions, documenting decisions and driving resolution of open items. Review and validate contractor's‑developed project schedules, cost estimates, execution plans, and risk registers, identifying potential impacts and recommending mitigation strategies on behalf of the Client. Monitor contractor's adherence to contractual obligations, including schedule milestones, cost controls, quality assurance programs, and safety compliance. Review, evaluate, and recommend approval of submittals, RFIs, change orders, claims, progress reports, and invoices in alignment with contract requirements and owner expectations. Coordinate owner‑side interfaces with utility providers, interconnection partners, permitting authorities, inspectors, and AHJs to support timely approvals and energization. Provide on‑site presence as required to observe construction activities, address issues proactively, and maintain momentum through critical path milestones. Oversee testing, commissioning, and energization activities, verifying readiness and compliance prior to system turnover. Drive issue resolution, escalation, and decision‑making while protecting the Client's interests, maintaining transparency, and ensuring clear communication across all parties.
