Job Description
the Position Overview fyberLogic LLC is seeking an experienced OSP Field Superintendent to lead multi-crew fiber construction operations across the Texas Triangle and surrounding service areas. This role is primarily focused on subcontractor oversight and production accountability, with the ability to perform hands-on quality control, field troubleshooting, and crew mentorship. The successful candidate will coordinate HDD, aerial, and conduit installation subcontractors while ensuring fyberLogic's safety, quality, and schedule standards are upheld on every job site. This is a field-forward leadership role suited for a superintendent who is equally comfortable reviewing bore logs at a drill head and running a daily production meeting with five sub crews operating simultaneously. The ability to communicate effectively in both English and Spanish is a meaningful advantage in managing the diverse workforce common to Texas OSP construction. Primary Responsibilities - Subcontractor Management & Coordination Direct day-to-day operations of multiple subcontracted HDD, aerial lashing, trenching, and conduit installation crews across active project sites. Issue daily work assignments, production targets, and site-specific instructions to sub foremen; hold morning tailgate reviews and end-of-day production debriefs. Monitor subcontractor performance against project schedules and unit production rates; escalate non-performance issues promptly through proper channels. Review and approve subcontractor daily production reports, as-built documentation, and time-and-material tickets for accuracy before submittal. Coordinate sub crew mobilization, equipment staging, and material delivery sequencing to minimize downtime and protect the schedule. Identify and communicate scope gaps, changed conditions, and differing site conditions to the Project Manager in real time. Enforce subcontract scope of work boundaries and manage field-level change order documentation. Quality Control & Field Inspection Perform field QC inspections of HDD bore paths, conduit placement, aerial strand and lashing, and splicing handhole installations. Verify locate compliance (811), traffic control setups, and right-of-way permit conditions are met before and during construction. Conduct joint inspections with client project managers, municipality inspectors, and utility representatives as required. Review construction prints, KMZ route files, and OSP design drawings in the field; flag conflicts or design discrepancies immediately. Ensure all work meets fyberLogic quality standards and applicable client specifications prior to accepting sub contractor production for payment. Safety Leadership Champion a safety-first culture across all sub crews; conduct or oversee daily JSA/toolbox talks and enforce PPE and fall protection requirements. Investigate near-misses and incidents; complete required documentation and coordinate with the Safety Manager on corrective actions. Ensure compliance with OSHA standards, traffic control plans (TxDOT and local), and all permit requirements while working in public rights-of-way. Immediately stop work if unsafe conditions are observed; authority to remove personnel from site for safety violations. Self-Performance & Technical Support Provide hands-on technical guidance to sub crews on HDD operation (Vermeer / Ditch Witch), bore planning, and mud management as needed. Assist with or directly perform aerial construction tasks — strand attachment, lashing, ADSS installation — to support production or demonstrate technique. Operate bucket trucks, reel trailers, and associated OSP support equipment; maintain valid licenses required for operation. Support fiber jetting and splicing crews during critical path activities when subcontractor capacity is insufficient. Documentation & Reporting Maintain accurate daily field logs covering crew counts, equipment on-site, footage installed by activity, weather conditions, and any incidents or delays. Submit weekly look-ahead schedules, coordinating sub crew locations and production forecasts to the Project Manager. Track and report material consumption; coordinate with logistics to ensure adequate conduit, hardware, and consumable stock at each active site. Support the preparation of owner progress billings by verifying and certifying field quantities. Experience & QualificationsRequired 5+ years of progressive experience in OSP fiber construction, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or superintendent role overseeing subcontractors. Demonstrated experience managing concurrent multi-crew operations across geographically dispersed sites. Hands-on proficiency with HDD equipment (Vermeer D18x22, D23x30, or equivalent class) and aerial plant construction. Ability to read and interpret OSP construction drawings, permit packages, and KMZ/GIS route files. Valid Texas driver's license; CDL Class A or B is a plus. Proficiency with electronic daily reporting tools and basic office software (email, spreadsheets, PDF review). Bilingual in English and Spanish — preferred; candidates with strong Spanish communication skills in a field supervision context will be given preference. Preferred Experience operating across TxDOT ROW and familiarity with Texas 811 compliance requirements. Familiarity with fiber jetting operations and blown fiber installation methods. OSHA 30 certification (Construction); first aid/CPR current. Working knowledge of OSP design fundamentals and the ability to identify constructability issues from engineering drawings. Working Conditions Based within the Texas Triangle, primary travel radius covers Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, San Antonio, and Austin metro areas with periodic statewide travel. Field-based role, the majority of time is spent on active construction sites in outdoor environments and variable weather conditions. Schedule may include extended hours, weekend work, and short-notice site visits to address production or safety issues. Company vehicle provided or vehicle allowance offered; fuel and approved travel expenses reimbursed per fyberLogic policy.
