While Alton Lane is deeply rooted in premium menswear, this role will span both men's and women's apparel, playing a pivotal part in our product evolution. Heavily focused on the mechanics of product building, you will bridge the gap between creative design and final production. You will ensure that every garment maintains our uncompromising standards for fit, construction, and quality across all body types.
Key Responsibilities Product Building & Construction:
Lead the technical development of garments from initial concept through final production, ensuring superior construction methods, durability, and aesthetic integrity.
Cross-Category Expertise:
Manage technical design for both men's and women's apparel lines, applying a deep understanding of the distinct grading, tailoring, and fit requirements for each.
Fit Mastery:
Lead fit sessions on live models or 3D avatars. Analyze fit issues, evaluate ease and proportion, and provide clear, actionable correction routing to global factory partners.
Tech Pack Management:
Oversee the creation and maintenance of comprehensive tech packs, including highly detailed technical sketches, measurement specs, grading rules, and bill of materials (BOM).
Vendor Collaboration:
Act as the primary technical liaison with our international manufacturing partners, troubleshooting production issues and ensuring factories clearly understand construction requirements.
Process Optimization:
Continuously evaluate and improve the product development workflow to increase efficiency and reduce sample iteration times without sacrificing quality.
Pattern Corrections :
Execute and oversee detailed pattern corrections, collaborating closely with vendors to ensure accurate translation of fit adjustments into production patterns while maintaining consistency across all size grading and silhouettes.
Training and Mentorship :
Develop and implement comprehensive training protocols for new and existing team members, focusing on technical design standards, fit consistency, tech pack accuracy, and best practices in garment construction.
Qualifications Experience:
12+ years of progressive experience in technical design or product development within the apparel industry.
Category Knowledge:
Demonstrated experience working with both men's apparel is required, with a strong portfolio showcasing complex product building (tailoring/suiting experience is a major plus). Women's experience would be a plus.
Technical Skills:
Expert understanding of patternmaking, garment construction, sourcing grading rules, and fabric yield.
Software Proficiency:
Highly proficient in Adobe Suite (Photoshop and Illustrator) and Excel. Experience with 3D design and graphic design software is highly preferred.
Communication:
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical corrections to non-native English-speaking factory partners.
