The Utility Locator is responsible for identifying, locating, and marking underground utility lines to ensure safe excavation and construction activities. This role is essential to preventing service disruptions, protecting critical infrastructure, and maintaining compliance with industry regulations. Key Responsibilities Perform accurate field locates of underground utilities using electromagnetic locating equipment and other advanced technologies Identify and mark utilities including fiber optic, telecommunications, gas, electric, water, and sewer lines in accordance with industry standards and local regulations Interpret construction drawings, utility maps, and as-built documentation Respond to locate tickets within required timeframes and service level agreements Document completed locates with detailed notes, photos, and sketches using company systems and mobile applications Communicate effectively with construction crews, project managers, and property owners regarding locate results and potential conflicts Maintain, inspect, and calibrate locating equipment to ensure accuracy and reliability Adhere to all company safety policies, OSHA standards, and damage prevention best practices Report damages, near-misses, or discrepancies immediately and assist with incident investigations as needed Support continuous improvement initiatives and maintain a high standard of quality and accountability in all work performedQualifications Education & Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent required Prior experience in utility locating, construction, or telecommunications preferred Experience with locating equipment (e.g., electromagnetic locators, ground-penetrating radar) is a plusKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Strong understanding of underground utility systems and damage prevention practices Ability to read and interpret maps, blueprints, and technical drawings High attention to detail with strong problem-solving skills Effective communication and organizational skills Ability to work independently in a fast-paced field environment Basic proficiency with mobile technology and data entry systems Working Conditions & Exposure Primarily field-based role requiring regular travel to job sites. Work performed outdoors with exposure to varying weather conditions, uneven terrain, and moderate noise levels. Occasional evening or weekend work may be required based on project needs. Physical Requirements The physical demands described here are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of this position: Ability to stand, walk, and work outdoors for extended periods. Ability to safely navigate active construction environments. Capability to lift and carry materials or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds as part of normal field activities. Frequent bending, kneeling, climbing, and reaching during inspections and site supervision. Manual dexterity required to operate tools, equipment, and computer devices. Ability to wear and properly utilize required personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hat, safety vest, gloves, and protective eyewear and lead safe construction processes by example to prevent injury prevention (i.e. vehicle use, construction processes, bending and lifting safety).About Us:
