INTERVIEW INFORMATION
The highest scoring applicants will be invited to attend in-person interviews on June 17 and June 18, 2026. Out-of-state candidates may participate via Microsoft Teams. The City of Tucson does not provide VISA sponsorship. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of application and throughout the duration of employment. Relocation expenses will not be provided for this position. Candidates are responsible for all costs associated with relocating to the Tucson area, if applicable.

ABOUT THIS JOB
Position Specific Summary The Code Enforcement Inspector position at the City of Tucson's Planning and Development Services Department investigates reports of City Code violations including but limited to property maintenance, zoning, building, signage, minimum housing standard, nuisances, and related emergencies as assigned. In support of this, the Code Inspector independently conducts field inspections, performs research and investigative work, issues notices and citations, and maintains technical knowledge of applicable codes and regulations. Work is performed under the supervision of the Inspection Supervisor. This position does not supervise. Duties and Responsibilities Makes professional contact with occupants or owners of properties, conducts site investigations to determine code violations and collects evidence in support of findings. Issues Notices of Violations regarding City Code and other applicable documents as needed. Obtains vendor quotes for violation abatements, schedules abatements, and conducts site visits ensuring completion before closing. Inspects structures that may require the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to be requested from supervisor, including face masks or protective vests. Researches property ownership, violation history and other relevant information prior to conducting inspections or making contact. Enters accurate and timely inspection results, notes, photos, and other related documents into the case management system. Creates notices and citations for issuance and schedules follow-up inspections to ensure compliance. Develops, maintains, and prepares violation evidence for court cases which includes but is not limited to inspection notes, photographs, recordings, and exhibits for scheduled court hearings. Represents the City of Tucson by appearing and providing relevant testimony at court hearings. Provides excellent customer service to both internal and external customers by communicating with constituents, other departments, Mayor & Council and ward offices through email, phone, meetings, and in-person field visits. Responds to case inquiries and provides informational and educational resources to customers. Performs all other duties and tasks as assigned. Working Conditions Work schedule may include early mornings nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime. Work requires on-call shifts. Often works under the following conditions: exposure to physical, ergonomic, or hazardous environment, which includes but is not limited to rough terrain dirt, grime, chemical, loud noise, and unfavorable odors. All duties and responsibilities listed are subject to change.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
6 months post high school.
Experience:
Three (3) years of relevant experience A valid and unrestricted driver's license with two (2) years of licensed driving is required. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

II Experience:
Direct experience as a jurisdictional code enforcement officer, inspector, or trainee. Demonstrated experience working with International Code Council Codes and Standards, including international building (IBC), residential (IRC), plumbing (IPC), mechanical (IMC), property maintenance (IPMC), and zoning (IZC) code.
