This advanced technical role plays a key part in ensuring safe, high‑quality construction throughout the county by enforcing State and Local Building Codes, ordinances, and related regulations. As a Building Inspector III, you will conduct inspections on residential and commercial structures, review and interpret building codes, collaborate with architects, engineers, contractors, and property owners, and provide expert guidance in the field. This position offers the opportunity to work independently, apply your technical expertise daily, and contribute to the continued growth and safety of one of Florida's most rapidly developing regions. Responsibilities Inspects buildings under construction and upon completion to determine compliance with applicable structural, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, accessibility, energy, and FEMA regulations and codes Discusses construction projects with architects, engineers, contracts, and owners Reviews codes and recommends revisions Interprets codes in response to telephone calls and in the field Attends Building Officials Association of Florida meetings Drives to and from construction sites Adheres to work schedule and attendance requirements Performs other work as directed and required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of personnel rules and regulations, statutes, ordinances, regulations, and codes under which the Walton County BCC operates Knowledge of building construction methods and materials Knowledge of building, electrical, gas, pluming, mechanical, and fire codes Knowledge of inspection techniques and practices Ability to enforce codes tactfully, firmly, and impartially Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing Ability to establish and maintain effective, courteous working relationships with public officials, peers, other divisions and departments, and citizens Ability to remain calm in stressful situations and to take a teamwork approach to the job by cooperating with others, offering to help others when needed, and considering larger organization or team goals rather than individual concerns
Minimum Qualifications Required:
All four (4) inspector licenses: building, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing Valid driver's license
Pay:
$64,187.43
