Position Summary :
Under general supervision, the incumbent is responsible for inspection work in enforcing compliance with City codes and ordinances pertaining to portions of land development regulations, housing, and environmental codes. Includes gathering, evaluating and interpreting information with the ability to present cases to the Code Enforcement Board as necessary. Work is reviewed through oral and written reports, discussion, and results obtained.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
The following duties are illustrative and not ehaustive. The omission of specific statements of duties does not eclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position. Investigates reported and observed violations of the City's ordinances and codes pertaining to zoning, housing, environment, junk vehicles, and derelict properties. Notifies code violators of code requirements and makes an effort to obtain compliance through negotiation. Issues citations and re-inspects premises after the allotted time to see if the violation has been corrected. Refers non-compliance cases to the Code Enforcement Board for action. Presents testimony before the Code Enforcement Board. Interprets and eplains the assigned ordinances and codes to the general public, property owners, business, builders, contractors and other interested parties. Prepares and maintains necessary reports and records. Performs other job duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
Knowledge of municipal codes and ordinances pertaining to zoning, housing, environment, junk vehicles, derelict properties, and parking of trailers and recreational vehicles. Knowledge of investigative procedures and ability to compile facts in a logical progression for presentation to the Code Enforcement Board. Ability to use good judgment and tact in securing the cooperation and compliance of property owners, tenants and the general public. Ability to enforce applicable ordinances and codes with firmness, tact and impartiality. Ability to read, understand and eplain maps, aerials, plats, plans and other technical drawings. Ability to communicate orally and in writing clearly and concisely in an easily understood manner.
Education and Eperience :
High school diploma or equivalent. Five years of verifiable eperience in the trades or as a building inspector, housing inspector, environmental inspector, planning, zoning, building construction or contracting, civil engineering, foreman or competent mechanic in charge of construction. A combination of education, training, and eperience may be substituted at the City Manager's discretion.
Certificates and Licenses :
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license and must be insurable by the City's current insurance provider. National Incident Management System (NIMS) training will be required according to the job duties and responsibilities within one (1) year of employment. Must possess or acquire within twelve months of permanent status hire, certification as a Code Inspector by the Florida Association of Code Enforcement (FACE).

Emergency Responsibilities :
In the event of an emergency or disaster, an employee may be required to respond promptly to duties and responsibilities as assigned by the employee's department, Emergency Management or City Administration. Such assignments may be before, during or after the emergency/disaster.
