Mechanical Inspector - Contract

Job DescriptionSGS is looking for a Mechanical Inspector near Union City, Indiana for a contract expected to last ~8 months or until the facility is in service. The Mechanical Inspector will support construction activities by performing field inspections and verifying that mechanical installations meet project requirements, applicable codes, and safety standards. This role works closely with site supervision and reports to the Lead Mechanical Inspector.

Perform field inspections of mechanical installations including piping and equipmentVerify materials, fabrication, and installation comply with drawings and specificationsWitness mechanical and pressure testing activitiesDocument inspection results, punch list items, and deficienciesVerify corrective actions and support mechanical completion walk‑downsCommunicate quality or safety concerns to inspection leadershipFollow all site safety and inspection proceduresQualifications10+ years of mechanical inspection and/or industrial construction experience in active construction environmentsAWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification

• strongly preferredAPI 510 (Pressure Vessel Inspector) certification
• strongly preferred API 570 (Piping Inspector) certification
• nice to haveOSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety certification (or equivalent) is preferredDemonstrated experience inspecting piping systems, pressure systems, and mechanical equipmentStrong working knowledge of ASME and API codes applicable to industrial construction and pressure systems Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, piping isometrics, mechanical drawings, and project specifications Strong attention to detail with the ability to accurately document inspection findings, deficiencies, and corrective actionsStrong computer skills (MS Office suite).

Shift Schedule:

Monday to Friday 7 am to 5 pmA per diem and milage will be paid depending on the location of the contractorThe position will be for approximatively 8 months or until the site is in serviceThe candidate will need their own vehicle to get to site.
