GREENFIELD
Local Building Inspector Performs complex professional, technical and administrative work, coordination and direct execution of duties associated with activities to assist communities in meeting local, regional, state and federal requirements and initiatives pertaining to the interpretation and enforcement of the State Building code, Zoning Bylaws and other applicable regulations of the FCCIP member communities. Performs all other related work as required.
Specific functions:
Reviews applications for permits to alter, improve, construct and/or demolish buildings and structures within FCCIP member towns. Reviews plans to assure compliance with Massachusetts State Building code and member town bylaws. Makes on-site inspections and reviews work in progress to assure construction conformance with building and zoning regulations. Reviews plans, issues permits and Certificates of Occupancy and Certificates of Inspection. Interprets and enforces zoning bylaws, investigates complaints of building and zoning violations, issues orders for correction of violations. Meets with contractors, architects and property owners in regard to plans and projects.
Evening meetings:
generally 1 or fewer per month General functions: Provides reports or analyzes data, including responding to requests from municipal, regional, state and federal officials. Is responsible for providing cooperative or fee-based regional services for member towns. May provide public presentations, presenting reports and updates at various public meetings. Performs similar or related work as required, directed or as situation dictates.
Recommended Minimum Qualifications:
Education, Training and Experience:
Bachelor\'s Degree preferred; 5 years\' supervision of building construction/design, or a two-year associate degree in a field related to building construction or design, or any combination of education and experience which would confer equivalent knowledge and ability. Certification as a Local Inspector or approved by the Massachusetts BBRS Certification Committee as a Conditional Local Inspector with the expectation that the applicant will pass all necessary testing as a Local Inspector within 12 months of employment. Must possess a valid driver\'s license.
Knowledge, Ability and Skill:
Knowledge:
Thorough knowledge of the practices of project management, budget administration and grant administration, as applicable. Working knowledge of state and federal statutes governing related specific program expertise. Thorough understanding of state and federal laws and regulations, as applicable
Ability:
Ability to plan, organize and direct the preparation of studies, analyze problems, prepare reports and formulate recommendations. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, local, regional, state and federal officials and the general public.
Skill:
Excellent written and oral communication skills; Proficient with Microsoft Office Professional applications and program-related computer applications. Strong interpersonal skills and public communication skills, including public speaking. Excellent management, administrative and organizational skills.
