Job Description

Description:
Acorn Engineering, Inc., a Maine-based, 100% employee-owned civil engineering, surveying and landscape architecture firm, is hiring for the upcoming Construction Season (May - November) with the goal of long-term, seasonal construction employment with Acorn. The Class II Inspector is assigned to a single daily operation on Maine Department of Transportation (MaineDOT) construction projects and will support the Class III or Resident Inspector on the job. There are opportunities throughout the state of Maine and they may require overnight and weekend work. Responsibilities & Duties Specific duties may include hot mix asphalt paving ticket taker, railroad facility oversight, marine facility oversight and/or performing basic inspection of construction activities.
Other tasks could include:
Measurement and documentation of construction activities to ensure compliance with specifications Computation of quantities and test values Basic field testing Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
Qualifications & Skills Experience in construction inspection preferred but not required with 2- or 4-year industry related degree Ability to obtain NETTCP paving and ACI Concrete certifications (Certification paid by Acorn) Knowledge of MaineDOT standards preferred but not required Strong verbal and written communications skills Ability to follow verbal and/or written instructions, to perform tasks independently and to produce neat and accurate reports Commitment to working with integrity and in an ethical manner Ability to maintain safe work practices in a fast-paced work environment Dependable and willing to work 10+ hours a day outdoors and on your feet A valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle for daily transportation Civil engineering, construction engineering technology and surveying engineering technology graduates are encouraged to apply Benefits/Compensation Acorn offers an excellent compensation and benefits package including: Paid time off, (Vacation, Sick and Holidays) Health insurance and flexible spending account Dental insurance Short Term, Long Term and Life Insurance 401K plus company match Paid Family Leave Year-end bonus Employee ownership Candidate Application and Evaluation Please include cover letter stating qualifications and detailing how your past work experience makes you the best candidate for this position.
