$18.90 - $24.09/Hour

The City of Fayetteville is currently recruiting a Permit Technician to provide customer service for the Development Services department; issue permits and certificates of occupancy; calculate and process permit fees; maintain permit files and database and reconciles daily reports. Issue permits and certificates of occupancy; maintain department database program. Provide general and detailed information to developers, contractors and citizens regarding the permitting and development review processes. Research public records with regard to building permits, code enforcement cases and inspection requests. Record, log, compile, prepare and maintain various reports, files, documents, plans and indexes. May use fee schedules and designated calculation methodologies to determine value of preliminary and final fees; collect, record and balance permit related monetary transactions. Process applicable charges, handle cash, checks and other forms of payment, perform initial reconciliation of receipts and reconcile entries with the Permit Tracking System. Receive a variety of routine problems and complaints and direct them to appropriate division and staff. Learn, understand and apply various state and local laws, codes, ordinances and regulations; stay up to date with ordinance and procedural changes. Produce routine correspondence following established department operations, policies, procedures, regulations and ordinances as directed by the supervisor. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience :
Two years of related experience in clerical, office support or customer service work.
Training :
Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.
LICENSING & CERTIFICATIONS
Required :
None.
Preferred :
Commissioned by the State of North Carolina as a Notary Public. From the time of closing, the selection process is anticipated to last approximately 4 - 6 weeks. The process will consist of a panel interview and clerical tests which may include but not limited to: Keyboarding, MS Excel and MS Word with the selected candidate being subject to a pre-employment drug screen, background check and driving history check.
