This is a repost, all previous applicants must reapply to be considered. This posting is for an Engineering Technician I position in the Goldsboro Construction Resident Engineer's Office. This position performs technical duties supporting engineers and other professionals in areas such as construction inspection, surveying, materials testing, materials sampling, erosion control inspection and construction traffic control audits on assigned projects. Work functions may include inspection for compliance and/or code; collection and analysis of field data; testing of materials; review and interpret design plans; analysis of engineering related data and/or product data. Duties may also include construction layout, measuring, staking, marking, and clearing brush. This position will perform other related duties as required Additional expectations include the ability to evaluate and apply engineering judgment to plan interpretation; establish and maintain positive lines of communication between technicians, engineers, contractors and public. Ability to traverse rough terrain in evaluating highway construction. Apply safety philosophy and program to all operations. Ability to work near high volumes of traffic and heavy construction equipment. Accurately maintain daily records of work accomplished. Safety-toed shoes required. •Offer of employment will be contingent upon successful completion of NCDOT post offer employment evaluation.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences Salary Grade and Salary Range:
NC07 $37,377 - $65,408 Management prefers applicants with the following: Knowledge and understanding of general concepts, practices, and theories used in construction, construction inspection, and/or construction surveying. Experience maintaining standard daily records and reports. Knowledge of standards and specifications and plan reading experience. Minimum Education and Experience Some state job postings say you can qualify by an "equivalent combination of education and experience." Associate's degree in an applicable area of Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or a related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. If there are no qualified candidates remaining in the applicant pool who meet the minimum Education and Experience or Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required for the position, the agency may consider for this position, a trainee who does not meet the minimum requirements. Salary for a trainee may be set at a lower level than the classification salary range and recruitment range that is listed in the posting with the salary being adjusted up accordingly when the trainee has obtained the necessary additional education and experience to fully meet the minimum qualifications as outlined in the classification specification.
