Inspector L1-2 - Steam Distribution Perform Projects Group Consolidated Edison Company of York $45.62 - $60.29 / hr United States, York, York 4 Irving Place (Show on map) Jun 09, 2026 Overview An Inspector in Steam Distribution shall have a normal reporting headquarter but will be expected to oversee contractors performing Steam construction activities in the Steam service territory, and potential emergencies throughout the Con Edison service territory. Responsibilities Core Responsibilities
The selected candidate for this position must be willing and able to be trained/perform all the job functions within the job title specific to the department's needs.
Must have excellent oral and written communication skills, be able to write clear, concise reports and communicate effectively with customers and contractors.
Must have excellent organizational skills and the ability to multi-task.
Must be willing and able to read and interpret steam, electric, and gas plates.
Must be able to perform all job functions while wearing the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and also be available to work routine, night, emergency overtime & weekend duties when required.
Must operate computerized equipment, e.g. iPhone & tablet PC, as it relates to the job functions they are performing.
Conduct field inspections to ensure that all company facilities are protected, supported, maintained in accordance with all applicable engineering designs, specifications, procedures, and/or codes.
Ensure all code 753 requirements are implemented on every applicable job.
Ensure that the contractor's means and methods conform to their HASP and local, state, and federal regulations. Assure all contractor work is conducted within stipulations required by applicable NYC permits, guidelines, and minimize qualify of life issues for the community we serve.
Respond to company-wide events, such as storm emergencies, heat alerts, system outages, feeder patrols, etc.
Respond to contractor damages and prepare damage investigation reports as required.
Establish and maintain professional, effective, timely, and consistent communication with fellow inspectors, CCIs, project specialists, managers, and all required company and external agency personnel.
Must prepare and submit loose leaf drawings, time sheets, field sketches and item cut sheets for contractor payments accurately and timely.
Must be willing to utilize personal vehicle for company business while receiving mileage compensation.
Must be willing and able to be trained for and provide guidance and oversight to Steam Field Operations and Steam Welding employees. Qualifications Required Education/Experience Bachelor's Degree in a related field and 2 years of experience in Steam or Construction
High School Diploma/GED and 5 years of experience Preferred Education/Experience Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Environmental, Architecture, Computer Science or Construction Management Relevant Work Experience 2 years In Steam Operations (Distribution or Steam Plant) is preferred
2 years In Construction (CM, Paving, PI, etc.) is preferred Licenses and Certifications Driver's License Required Physical Demands Ability to respond to system emergencies
Ability to work in inclement weather and adverse conditions (i.e., excessive heat, cold, noise, confined spaces)
Ability to be approved to wear and use either a full or half-face respirator, without facial hair or other conditions that may interfere with the seal, in accordance with OSHA regulations
Stand, walk, lift, climb, bend, kneel, stoop, and/or reach for the duration of the workday
Wear necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), i.e. fire-retardant clothing and safety harnesses
Work with equipment with a manufacturer weight rating of 350lbs
Use equipment with a maximum weight rating of 375lbs when wearing and/or carrying 25lbs of clothing and equipment
Use personal vehicle(s), and be able to transport, store, and secure company laptops and other job-related equipment in vehicle. Acknowledge that reimbursement for use of personal vehicle is available through the company mileage procedure Additional Physical Demands The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
