Job Description

Summary The Soils Technician performs entry-level field and laboratory testing of soils and aggregates to support geotechnical engineering and construction quality control. This role is ideal for candidates beginning their career in construction materials testing and working toward ICC Soils Special Inspector or NICET Level I/ll certification. The work will be done in the New York metropolitan area. Key Responsibilities Field soil testing
  • Perform in-place density testing using nuclear gauge or sand-cone methods under supervision. Laboratory soil testing
  • Conduct moisture content, proctor, gradation, and Atterberg limits tests following
ASTM/AASHTO
standards. Construction observation
  • Observe earthwork, fill placement, and compaction activities to verify compliance with project specifications. Sample collection
  • Obtain representative soil and aggregate samples from job sites and deliver them to the lab. Documentation & reporting — Prepare clear, accurate field reports, density logs, and daily summaries Equipment operation
  • Safely operate nuclear density gauges, scales, ovens, and other testing equipment. Safety compliance
  • Follow company and site-specific safety protocols, including PPE and radiation safety procedures.
Required Qualifications NICET Soils Level 1 or ICC Soils certification required. High school diploma or equivalent. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation. Ability to lift 50+ Ibs. and work outdoors in varying conditions. Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn testing procedures.
