City of Middleton Full/Part TimeFull-Time Regular/TemporaryRegular Introduction The City of Middleton is seeking a Building Inspection Manager to lead our Inspection Division and play a key role in guiding safe, high-quality development across our community. This position blends technical expertise, leadership, and customer service—working with contractors, developers, residents, and City staff to ensure projects move forward efficiently and while meeting all applicable codes and standards. What You'll Do:
Lead and oversee building, HVAC, electrical, and property maintenance inspections Review plans, permits, and specifications for code compliance Conduct field inspections on residential and commercial projects Interpret and enforce local, state, and federal building codes Supervise and support Inspection Division staff Manage division budget and provide input on permit fee structures Work directly with developers, contractors, and residents to guide projects Investigate complaints and ensure timely, fair resolution Maintain accurate inspection and enforcement records Lead a high-impact division in a growing, high-quality community Work in a collaborative environment that values problem-solving Be part of a City known for innovation, responsiveness, and strong community trust
Salary Information Starting Annual Salary Range:
$100,267 - $107.787, Full-Time Exempt position eligible for the full benefit package

Travel to City construction sites and residences is required. Attendance at evening meetings and special events may be occasionally required. Remote work opportunities may be available with supervisor approval. Work is performed in both an office environment and outdoors in all weather conditions, with possible exposure to noise, dust, fumes, and other environmental factors. Work will involve contact with the public, requiring effective communication and professional conduct. Work will involve exposure to stressful situations, deadlines, and conflict resolution. Work requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, reach, bend, stoop, and lift objects up to 20 pounds. Work requires extended periods of standing or walking. Work will involve operating standard office equipment (computer, telephone, copier, etc.). Vision and hearing are required to perform essential functions and communicate effectively. Work may require climbing or working in confined spaces. Qualifications Associate degree in construction management, building inspection, engineering, or related field - 5+ years of experience in inspections, construction, or code enforcement - 2+ years of supervisory or lead experience Valid driver's license Required certifications at hire: UDC Commercial Building Inspector or Construction Inspector (with commercial endorsement)
UDC HVAC
Inspector Ability to obtain UDC Electrical Inspector certification within one year
Preferred:
Plan Review Certification We welcome a variety of backgrounds—equivalent education, training, and experience may be considered.
