Garg Consulting Services, Inc. (Garg) provides construction management and field inspection services for transportation infrastructure across the Northeast. We're hiring a Construction Inspector to support highway, bridge, and interchange construction projects in the Providence, RI area. Position Overview As a Construction Inspector, you will perform daily field inspection for roadway, bridge, and interchange construction, verify work meets contract plans/specifications, and maintain accurate project documentation. You'll coordinate with the Resident Engineer, contractor, and testing teams to support safe work zones, quality construction, and on-time delivery. Key Responsibilities Inspect highway corridor improvements, including bridges, interchanges, roadway reconstruction, drainage, retaining walls, signing/ITS, lighting, pavement, and pavement markings, in accordance with plans and specifications. Verify contractor compliance with RIDOT specifications, approved plans, Special Provisions, and applicable FHWA requirements; document observations and notify the Resident Engineer of issues. Inspect and document bridge/structural work (rebar, formwork/falsework, concrete placement/curing, structural steel, bearings, joints, deck systems, approach slabs, and bridge drainage) and coordinate with the inspection/testing team as needed. Observe construction staging and Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) setups (lane shifts, detours, ramp changes, temporary patterns) and promptly report field conflicts and safety concerns.
Support QA/QC and acceptance testing:
coordinate sampling/testing (earthwork, aggregate, asphalt, concrete), review available QC documentation, and verify corrective actions are completed. Measure and track quantities for pay items; maintain daily reports, diaries, field measurements, and photo documentation to support estimates and project records. Identify constructability, schedule, and utility conflicts; communicate observations to the project team and support timely field resolutions. Participate in progress, coordination, and safety meetings as assigned; provide inspection updates and highlight risks/items requiring attention. Promote work-zone safety and environmental compliance (erosion and sediment controls, stormwater protections) and verify contractor adherence to project safety requirements. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, construction management, or related discipline with 1+ years of construction inspection experience on transportation projects (highway, bridge, interchange, or roadway reconstruction preferred) or; NICET Transportation Construction Inspection Level II certification with 2+ years of construction inspection experience on transportation projects (highway, bridge, interchange, or roadway reconstruction preferred) Valid driver's license: ability to travel to project sites and work variable shifts (nights/weekends) as construction schedules require. Preferred Qualifications EIT is a plus; relevant inspection certifications (e.g., ACI, NETTCP, or equivalent) a plus. Experience inspecting bridge construction/rehabilitation (concrete, steel, bearings, joints, deck systems). Working knowledge of work-zone traffic control and staged construction on high-volume roadways. Proficiency with digital inspection reporting, quantity tracking, and photo documentation. Familiarity with RIDOT projects and RIDOT Standard Specifications is a plus.
