- ( 2601333 ) Position Information Join the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) Houston District Maintenance Office and play a key role in the district maintenance operations.
This position will be the primary technical/engineering resource lead and subject matter expert for seal coats and will oversee the District Seal Coat Program, including both contracted and in-house operations. In addition to the District Seal Coat Program other preventative maintenance programs will also fall under the umbrella of this position such as herbicide and diamond grinding. This position will require you to make frequent visits to job sites and maintenance offices for training, planning, and inspections. This position requires someone who is not afraid to take charge of operations and command attention while also mentoring and teaching field and design staff from multiple offices. Position Description Construction Inspector V:
Oversees inspection of construction methods and workmanship to ensure contractors build roadways, bridges, traffic signals, airports and related structures in accordance with plans and specifications; acts as a consultant regarding work progress and problem resolution. Trains others. May lead the work of professional and technical employees. Responsible to a licensed professional engineer who has full authority for final approval of all engineering-related work. Work requires contact with other governmental agencies and private entities to include contractors. May perform material tests/manufacturing process inspections at fabrication sites. Employees at this level are virtually self-supervising and assume direct accountability for the work product.
Construction Inspector VI:
Oversees inspection of construction methods and workmanship to ensure contractors build roadways, bridges, traffic signals, airports and related structures in accordance with plans and specifications; [works in a metropolitan area of a metropolitan district]; acts as consultant regarding work progress and [highly advanced] problem resolution on [complex] projects. Responsible to a licensed professional engineer who has full authority for final approval of all engineering-related work. May lead the work of professional and technical employees; trains others. Work requires contact with contractors. May perform material tests/manufacturing process inspections at fabrication sites. Employees at this level are virtually self-supervising and assume direct accountability for the work product.
Essential Duties:
Construction Inspector V:
Performs engineering-related planning, design, data collection, inspections, assessments, analysis, and review activities for plan development. Trains and makes training-related recommendations to staff on new operations. Analyzes procedures to identify deficiencies and recommends improvements to management. Attends pre-construction meetings and answers questions from contractors and other attendees. Ensures adequate levels of equipment and materials are assigned to projects; ensures material tests are performed and materials meet required standards. May assist in planning and coordinating office operations May serve as a lead worker or project leader Documents work progress and issues arising throughout scope of project. Mentors and develops technical employees in test and inspection procedures and material specifications. Performs other job responsibilities as assigned
Construction Inspector VI:
Includes all essential duties listed for Construction Inspector V as well as: Ensures contractors build roadways, bridges and related highway structures and/or airport improvements in accordance with plans and specifications. Observes and inspects ongoing construction work. Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.

High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies.
Experience :
4 years of experience in construction inspection or transportation engineering experience. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent).
