Job Description
Inspects construction and alteration of all types of buildings and structures for compliance with building codes, ordinances, and laws. Reads blueprints and plans to determine compliance of contractors in the process of construction. Schedule field inspections of construction in an assigned area; Inspect various aspects of buildings under construction to ensure compliance with building codes; Interpret building codes and ordinances and explain such to the public and contractors; Record inspections and maintain records of inspections made; Note violations and/or problems encountered; Inspect existing structures to determine compliance with codes and ordinances before issuance of permits; Inform property owners, contractors, builders, and supervisors of code violations; May issue an order to stop work if compliance is not made; Perform final inspections of the construction site for final approval; Perform related duties as directed. Completion of two years of college coursework in engineering, architecture, or a related field with an additional three to six years of experience in construction work; or any combination of relevant education and experience that provides the following: Valid Current Driver's License Achieve certification by a major code group within one year of hire.
Knowledge of:
Building construction methods and practices; State and local codes and ordinances; Building inspection techniques.Ability to:
Complete on-the-job training in building construction inspection; Read and interpret blueprints; Explain violations of ordinances to contractors; Communicate effectively with others; Achieve certification from a major code group within one year of hire.Physical Requirements:
Occasionally lift and carry up to 25 pounds Frequently stand and walk during a shift; Occasionally climb ladders, scaffolding, stairs, poles, and inclined surfaces in order to make inspections; Rotate the upper trunk to the right or left while sitting or standing; Coordinate eye, hand, and foot movement in order to operate a vehicle operate a vehicle.Similar remote jobs
