Job Description
Acts as construction inspector who inspects, observes and documents work to ensure compliance with accepted codes, plans and specifications. Inspects forms, materials and workmanship for compliance with plans and specifications. Tests materials and workmanship as required. Acts as project field coordinator for contractors, utility companies and city departments Maintains daily diary and records on projects including emergency telephone numbers for key people. Provides weekly, monthly, and annual reports to supervisor and determines monthly quantities for payment to contractors. Maintains inspection project files for all phases of construction for each project. Provides information to update record drawings. Inspects traffic control devices for compliance with plans and the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices. Makes safety inspections to note deficiencies for correction. Analyzes field construction problems and assists with corrections. Assists survey crew with location of property pins. Performs related duties as assigned. Ability to sit, stand and drive a vehicle to and from work sites. Employee will be exposed to seasonal temperatures while performing on-site inspections. Ability to bend, kneel and climb while inspecting sites. Sufficient physical strength to lift regularly. Employee communicates with other employees in the work group and may respond to questions from contractors and the general public regarding services or specific projects. Coordinates with other departments and utility companies when scheduling work. Works with contractors in reviewing plans, inspecting and recommending modifications. Skill in observing, reading and interpreting written materials and blueprints. Knowledge of utility, drainage and paving construction and design requirements. Knowledge of city codes and ordinances and other state and federal requirements regarding utility construction and safety standards. Ability to use testing and measuring equipment. Skill in the use of a variety of machines, including personal computer, calculators and copiers. High school diploma or equivalent required. Three years of experience in construction or inspection of utility, paving and drainage work, preferred. Required Certifications include Class II Wastewater Collection, Class C Water Distribution Certification, Training or Certification on Trench Safety, Traffic Control in Construction Areas and HMAC Paving. Valid Texas driver's license required.
