Job Description

Position Overview Under basic supervision, performs plan reviews for proposed residential and commercial buildings for the Development Services Department; examines building plans before permit issuance and verifies plans are in compliance with building and safety codes, laws, regulations, and standards. Plans Examiner I Minimum starting salary is $30.0000 hourly , depending on qualifications
Minimum Qualifications Required:
Associate's degree in construction management, engineering, Business or Public Administration 2 years of experience in construction management, building inspection, plan review, or development; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. International Code Council (ICC) Residential Plans Examiner certification or alternate approved ICC Plans Examiner certification required within 1 year of employment. Essential Functions Performs and facilitates plan reviews for commercial and residential plan review projects; verifies compliance with state and federal building and safety regulations, City policies and department standards. Communicates with City departments, residents, and contractors to coordinate the resolution of permitting issues and technical questions; issues permit within scope of authority. Plans Examiner II Minimum starting salary is $33.0000 hourly , depending on qualifications
Minimum Qualifications Required:
Associate's degree in construction management, Engineering, Business or Public Administration 3 years of experience in construction management, building inspection, plan review, or development; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. International Code Council (ICC) Residential Plans Examiner certification or alternate approved ICC Plans Examiner certification One additional approved ICC Plans Examiner certification . Essential Functions Performs and facilitates complex and detailed plan reviews for a wide range of commercial and residential development projects, including large-scale and technically challenging applications; independently interprets and verifies compliance with state and federal building and safety regulations, City policies and department standards. Communicates with City departments, residents, and contractors to coordinate the resolution of permitting issues and technical questions; issues permit within scope of authority Plans Examiner III Minimum starting salary is $36.0000 hourly, depending on qualifications
Minimum Qualifications Required:
Associate's degree in construction management, Engineering, Business or Public Administration 4 years of experience in construction management, building inspection, plan review, or development; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. International Code Council (ICC) Residential Plans Examiner certification or alternate approved ICC Plans Examiner certification Two additional approved ICC Plans Examiner certifications Essential Functions Performs and facilitates complex and detailed plan reviews for a wide range of commercial and residential development projects, including large-scale and technically challenging applications; independently interprets and verifies compliance with state and federal building and safety regulations, City policies and department standards. Communicates with City departments, residents, and contractors to coordinate the resolution of permitting issues and technical questions; exercises professional judgment in recommending approvals, corrections, or alternative methods consistent with adopted codes and policies; issues permit within scope of authority. Assists with training for plan review staff.
